You know, if America has to choose between becoming a theocratic hellhole or a laissez-faire capitalist hellhole, I'm glad at least that we seem to be inching toward the latter rather than the former.

Grandmaster Funk - 2011-09-01

Well the thing is, the capitalist hellhole advocates don't necessarily also advocate a theocratic hellhole. On the other hand, most of the theocrats also advocate a capitalist hellhole, limited only where laissez-faire capitalism interferes with their theocratic dictates (e.g. availability of birth control, abortion, porn, alcohol, etc.). So the theocrats, by and large, are really pushing for the worst of both worlds.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2011-09-01

Capitalists could give a fuck God you do or do not believe in. They also don't care where you come from or what color you are. The only color is green and the only truth is self-interest.

Cena_mark - 2011-09-01

We're not becoming a "Capitalist Hellhole." We have too much regulation and Obama is proving that his ways won't save the economy. The sad thing is that I'll probably end up voting for a Christian wack job as long as he/she knows two shits about economics which is two shits more than Obama knows.

baleen - 2011-09-01

You're an idiot cena, shhh.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2011-09-01

Too much regulation, Cena? It really escaped your notice how Bush's FEC not enforcing much of any regulation led to AIG, Bank of America, and just about every non-CRA regulated mortgage broker throwing all previous caution to the wind. Right now, the corporations practically write their own regulations. It's why the Koch brothers can keep Formaldehyde (which they produce by the ton) from being banned and why natural gas fracking (which causes groundwater to be flammable) hasn't been outlawed.

You really are a willing partisan dupe.

Cena_mark - 2011-09-01

Steamy, I'm not saying those would be good regulations to enforce, however when the economy is in the shitter it is time to lighten up not tighten up.

SolRo - 2011-09-02

They should relax the regulation against beating idiots to death.

Void 71 - 2011-09-02

Inching toward the latter? We passed that goalpost in 1970 when wages stopped keeping pace with the cost of living.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2011-09-01

In this video: a lawyer defends his Christian beliefs. Nothing really mind blowing or particularly evil here.

charmlessman - 2011-09-01

HE'S RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT!

5 for evil.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2011-09-01

He's running for the GOP nomination and I wouldn't expect much different from any other republican wonk, so its pretty par for the course rhetoric which makes it the definition of banal, not evil.

SolRo - 2011-09-01

When evil becomes banal to you, have you yourself become evil?

Senator_Unger - 2011-09-01

According to Hannah Arendt, yes.

Cena_mark - 2011-09-01

Its funny how he complains about people wanting to change marriage laws, yet guys like him would jump on a protection of marriage amendment in a heartbeat. "My beliefs system is thousands of years old, the burden of proof is on you."

SolRo - 2011-09-01

think you forgot to log in to your non-troll account

Cena_mark - 2011-09-01

I'm not Baleen, and for a long time I've been defending gay marriage.

baleen - 2011-09-01

Yeah he's not me. Thank god.

Cena_mark - 2011-09-01

Baleen isn't smart enough to be me.

SolRo - 2011-09-02

The shit telling the asshole it smells.

Robin Kestrel - 2011-09-01

He's delusional. I think he believes himself and doesn't see the hypocrisy in his words.

fatatty - 2011-09-02

Blind hypocrisy is kind of the running theme of Christians and the right in general.

Syd Midnight - 2011-09-02

He's a true believer, and look how far he's gone as one. If his faith were to falter, if he were to spend even a moment pondering the implications, it would demolish his world, ruin his family, friends, he'd have to crawl into a bottle or kill himself or kill his family or something.

It's like a Wile E. Coyote/cliff situation where survival depends on never, ever looking down at what you're supposedly standing on.

BorrowedSolution - 2011-09-01

Did anybody else find his "Heterosexual relationships are naturally better' argument to be slightly fallacious? I mean, find me a representative sample outside of a society where that IS the norm, and then maybe we'll talk. The system is constructed precisely to benefit that type of relationship, is it any surprise that it works the best in the context to which it's been designed??

Or is this comment just making me seem dumber than a pile of frothy lube and fecal matter?

CornOnTheCabre - 2011-09-01

well, that and there's the whole idea that "naturally better" is putting two of the most ambiguous words in argumentative history together and not giving it a second thought

these types of statements buckle like a belt as soon as you ask the people behind them to define "natural" (read: like them) or "better" (read: more like them)

Xenocide - 2011-09-02

MARRIAGE HAS BEEN THERE BEFORE GOVERNMENT. BEFORE CIVILIZATION. BEFORE SPACE. BEFORE TIME. IN THE BEGINNING MARRIAGE CREATED GOD AND GOD CREATED THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH.

Timothy A. Bear - 2011-09-02

Theological is the default hellhole, because the others will quickly prove impotent.

BroodMother - 2011-09-02

look at this fucking retard saying social science overwhelmingly claims that the best environment for a child's development is with a husband and wife when in fact social science overwhelmingly claims that a TWO PARENT household is the best environment. Fucking misleading prick i'll kill himmmmmmmmmmmm.

pineapplejuicer - 2011-09-02

hey just so everyone knows, rick santorum is grade A certified fucking crazy. his wife had a miscarriage and he used his power as a US senator to get the hospital to release the dead underdeveloped fetus to him and then drove it to Pittsburgh to meet its grandparents, and has a family picture with his entire crew and the dead fetus.

no seriously:

pineapplejuicer - 2011-09-02

also when i was in 11th grade we met him at his office in DC (i live in pennsylvania) and he was 40 minutes late for the photo op and stayed for about 2 minutes, during which he excitedly ranted at a group of confused 16 year olds about islamofascists. fuck this guy, on the real.

The insane rage of Bachmann matched with the charisma of Pawlenty.
