A lot of his economic ideas look good in theory, if you ignore the fact that the free market has no reason to care for a worker's wages or safety. He's better than the other candidates by a wide margin, but that just says something about how far the republican party has sunk.
In a more perfect world, we'd all be talking about how good Nader looks compared to all the other candidates these days. But nobody sane wants to touch Nader or any other progressive candidates with a stick because they think he'll just steal votes away from the democrats and let another GW in office.

Nader? Really? What is so bad about the free market? We're not talking about an anarchistic capitalism, just a capitalism that makes it easier for businesses to trade. If governments back off of business they can expand and fix the economy and people will be back to work. Sure as hell will create more jobs than anything Obama's done.

This is where Libertarians get confused. They equate American business with the small business they own or want to own in the future when the reality is that American business is Wal-Mart and Microsoft. In other words, business that gutted America's manufacturing base, outsourced American jobs and destroyed the type of Main Street entrepreneurialism that Libertarians profess to love.

Deregulation has been disastrous to the small businessman.

To be fair, Void, the reason why businesses like WalMart outsource jobs to other countries the first place is because those other countries don't have the same minimum wage, work safety, health care, and other statist regulations in place. If America genuinely deregulated, instead of trying to strike some Keynesian balance between free market capitalism and socialist regulatory oversight, the jobs would come flooding back.

Noid71, that's where you're wrong. Big businesses can handle all the extra legislation. Its the small ones that suffer. Most Americans work for small business, yet all the dems do is want to tax them to death for "making too much money."

And they wouldn't be jobs that anyone would want.

They don't have to be jobs people WANT; at this point, most working class Americans would settle for jobs they NEED.

The problem is that the American version of deregulation has had the effect of choking small businessmen who want to do the right thing (pay their employees a proper wage) and empowering big business to transfer what used to be good paying blue and white collar jobs overseas. When you couple this with the lack of regulation punishing big business for said behavior, you end up with an economic system that grinds both productive Main Street entrepreneurialism (productive meaning local businesses that don't take advantage of dirt cheap slave labor coming in from third world countries to the detriment of the unemployed in their own community) and the American working class under its heel.

As a self proclaimed libertarian, why would you go work for the big bad 'gubmint, Cena? Why not grab the bull by the horns and blaze your way into the free market to by starting your own business and foster it into an empire? Instead, why run to Uncle Sam for an easy paycheck and free housing when you know damn well you'll just become another burden on hard working Americans? Minimalist- first off, why would unemployed workers work for ten dollars a day, when unemployment pays far more than that? Unemployment isn't a great idea, either- it rarely pays a living wage, even for singles, but when not working makes more economic sense than working...

Also, you've got to remember, illegal immigrants get paid ten dollars a day for the exact same reason outsourced workers in India get paid ten dollars a day. Documented workers HAVE to be paid minimum wages; companies get taxed on them, health care and safety regulations have to be in place, and so on and so forth. Remove those things, and companies would have no reason to hire undocumented workers over documented ones.
