Mysterious unknown individuals have sent us a coffin! A coffin with all of our names inscribed on it! I have a good feeling about this!

Dread Pirate Roberts - 2011-07-01

Let's open it!

... even though it sounds like a lawn mower that's about to explode...

StanleyPain - 2011-07-01

Holy shit, I haven't seen this in years (something like...20 years??) And yeah, it's kind of a creepy movie.

baleen - 2011-07-01

What was this supposed to teach children?

Meerkat - 2011-07-01

Grandparents are appliances to be turned on and off at the whim of children.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2011-07-02

That the Goa'uld are very sneaky and will try to infiltrate your family in ways you might not suspect.

delicatessen - 2011-07-02

All sarcophagi contain desiccated mummies

Caminante Nocturno - 2011-07-02

Jam things into grandma.

StanleyPain - 2011-07-02

Like most of Bradbury's work, it teaches you that people, if given the chance, would prefer automation and replication as opposed to a more natural world order and that they would be happy in sacrificing their liberty and freedom to do so. The story this is based on doesn't really have a moral other than the kids actually prefer their robot grandma to having a real mother figure in their lives, because she's essentially "perfect."
It sort of meant something back when Bradbury was still writing his strongest works, but in the last 10-15 years or so he's turned into one of those who buys into the "progressives are fascists" fiction that the right wing has adopted as their new fantasy world. He's kind of an out of touch, right-wing crazy now, like so many other formerly-cutting-edge sci-fi authors.

Jet Bin, were you reminded of this by watching the Peanut Butter Solution vid? Cuz I wuz. I think I saw them back to back when I was a kid.

Jet Bin Fever - 2011-07-02

dead_cat - 2011-07-02

"They sent us a dead woman! Stick a key in 'er!"

memedumpster - 2011-07-02

I Sing the Body Cheap Knockoff.

cognitivedissonance - 2011-07-02

To me, "Electric Grandmother" and "The Peanut Butter Solution" are the same movie, and the bookend parts of "Neverending Story" are in there too. My childhood mind couldn't tell any difference between them.

Oscar Wildcat - 2011-07-02

I always wondered about what the pilot for "Maude" looked like.

themilkshark - 2011-07-02

Back in my days as a 2nd grader in catholic school, they'd assemble the kids around a TV on wheels to show us some video that reportedly taught a moral lesson. That was code for low budget crap that insults the taste of 8 year olds. This movie looks like something they'd put on for us.

Those kids shouldn't be so excited for a fucking coffin.

Blandwiches - 2011-07-02

Hey that's the older brother from E.T. Check his picture out on IMDb for a laugh. His name is Robert MacNaughton.

Old_Zircon - 2011-07-02

The music in the last 30 seconds is some of the bet ersatz Philip glass I've ever heard.

Syd Midnight - 2011-07-04

Its okay to drink the fluids that come out of grandma's body
