The decisions he's talking about were judges arbitrating private contract disputes. The parties agreed to abide by certain religious beliefs, and the judge simply ruled on the basis of whether the secular definition of a good faith fulfillment of the contract was met. This happens all the time for Christian, Jewish and other religious communities. At no point did any judge in the US assert 'sharia' law has any legal precedent in the US, although we've had a few judges cite Christian legal authority.

George W. Bush was far readier to praise Islamic culture and distinguish between terrorists and Muslims (at least in speeches). How has the Republican Party gotten so much dumber since?

dbtng - 2011-03-28

Bush had better handlers.

CharlesSmith - 2011-03-28

You have to remember at the time, Bush seemed to be really pushing things. He lowered the collective bar so that all these people coming out of the woodwork could get over it.

pastorofmuppets - 2011-03-29

Nixon : China :: Bush : respecting Muslims

"Darkens"

:D

Mother_Puncher - 2011-03-28

There really isn't that big of a gap between Islamophobes spreading fear of Sharia law and terror baby theorists and they can easily be considered the same level of xenophobia.

IrishWhiskey - 2011-03-28

The Sharia law fear is just good old-fashioned xenophobia and bigotry, of which we have a long historical tradition.

'Terror babies' on the other hand, I judge more based on its illogical unworkability rather than discriminatory intent. The idea is that terrorists enter the US, have a baby, raise it to be a terrorist, and then send it back as a citizen to carry out future attacks. Despite the fact that being a citizen confers no greater advantage than they had when starting the plan 20 years ago, since they already had access to the country in the first place.

Any idiot can be a racist, but it takes a special kind of racist to be a big enough idiot to fear terror babies.

Mother_Puncher - 2011-03-28

My point was closer to both of these assumptions are basically fear mongering from people with an alternative religious agenda saying anything to get votes or rally against an opposing religion. But it is true that Sharia law has grounds to be a threat because of its history but my point is that the fear us unfounded because there is no actual evidence of sharia law enforcement in America and he had no proof.

CharlesSmith - 2011-03-28

It's not really the same. That's like saying that believing in trickle-down economics is the same as believing in the Easter Bunny. You sort of have a point, but it's a disingenuous one.

dbtng - 2011-03-28

I think the tag you were looking for is "oreo".

spikestoyiu - 2011-03-28

How is it this site is generally so hypersensitive when it comes to race, yet shit like this and "Uncle Tom" is a-okay?

jangbones - 2011-03-28

lighten up francis

DK1987 - 2011-03-28

It's okay to call him uncle tom because you see he's a "bad" black

spikestoyiu - 2011-03-28

Don't tell me where to lighten.

jangbones - 2011-03-28

for the record, I was not serious in adding the "uncle tom" tag to this video, it was a joke that I now know will be misunderstood by waaaaaay too many people

memedumpster - 2011-03-28

So is it inappropriate to suggest this should have been submitted by race traitor?

Cena_mark - 2011-03-28

This guy rocks. He often covers for Neal Boortz. Good God Failbones, what is up with the "Uncle Tom" tag? So all blacks have to be good little Democrats? All blacks must love Obama and Islam too. You're racist as hell Hangingboner.
You libs act like Islamophobia is unwarranted, but like many Christians there is no separating the man's office from their beliefs.

Mother_Puncher - 2011-03-28

Everything you think is stupid, mark.

jangbones - 2011-03-28

FUTURECHAT

StanleyPain - 2011-03-28

There's a difference between disliking Muslims and Sharia and hating on Muslims because you're basically a fucking racist.
It's usually pretty easy to tell the difference: usually people who are wary of Muslims solely because of their religion tend to ALSO not be in favor of any other religion having any kind of theocratic influences on our government or society.

Dumb GOP racists talk endless amount of shit about Muslims, then turn around and try to turn America into a theocracy by passing laws based on a "holy" book....JUST LIKE MUSLIMS, OH MY GOSH.

I have to especially love all the Republican white knights who love trashing the Islamic record on violence against women, while all the while gutting abortion laws and ways for women to get medical assistance and essentially wanting to dial back women's rights to sometime in the 1800s because women scare them so much. JUST LIKE MUSLIMS, OH MY GOSH.

misterbuns - 2011-03-28

If your friend here is so concerned about theocratic legislation that corrupts civil liberties penetrating our society he should renounce his support of the GOP.

misterbuns - 2011-03-28

Or maybe he just doesn't like Muslims.

memedumpster - 2011-03-28

Why one star someone who rocks?

Cena_mark - 2011-03-28

Memedumpster: I one starred because of the tags and title. Had they portrayed him a positive light it would be 5 starred.
I'm not saying that Christian polititians don't try to put a religious spin on their office, however, Christian fundies on the bench are far less dangerous than Muslim fundies on the bench.

"He made his fortune through business and not through sports or music. How dare he be such and Uncle Tom."

misterbuns - 2011-03-28

You guys are right Serena Marx is a great troll.

BorrowedSolution - 2011-03-28

News flash: People who believe in superstitious nonsense are stupid. Case closed, game over.

Mostly Pi - 2011-03-28

I like baby caveman intern in the background.

He looks at the back of Herman Cain's neck, looks down, looks away. Sort of nods while looking to see if the car has come yet. Disappointed, he looks at the camera, pleadingly, for a split second. Back to Herman, then down the other side of the hall. He starts doing the pee dance while looking for something, ANYTHING to catch Cain's attention. But there's nothing.

He then bunches up his mouth & stares at the camera, likely straining himself in a vain attempt to drain the batteries with his mind.

Finally, his eyes rest on the nape of Herman Cain's neck. "You motherfucker," he thinks. "You stupid intern-career-ruining-before-it-even-had-a-chance-to-start motherfucker."

charmlessman - 2011-03-28

Now if he had changed the word, "Muslim" to, "Any religious person" I would have been clapping.
