fedex - 2011-03-04 ILM made this movie basically, so you can bet it'll have some pretty nice lighting and animation

I liked it when he ate the cigar.

Apart from the shirt, I fail to see how this in any way evokes Fear and Loathing. Regardless, advance word on this is that it is surprisingly good....

Hammer Falls - 2011-03-04 Agreed.
In the first 10 minutes or so, though, when Rango is being bounced back and forth in traffic, there is an actual Hunter S. Thompson joke.

EXECUTIVE: "Let's remake "Blazing Saddles", only with talking animals and unnecessary CGI."
LOWER EXECUTIVE: "Couldn't we just rerelease "Blazing Saddles", because most kids start watching it at about the age of 3 anyway?"
EXECUTIVE: "Apparently you don't know how or why it is we do the things we do here."
ALL PRESENT: *HARRUMPH*
EXECUTIVE: "I didn't get a "Harrumph" outta that guy! YOU WATCH YOUR ASS."

Spit Spingola - 2011-03-04
Kind of surprised that I'm actually looking forward to this. Sure is visually arresting.
|
BHWW - 2011-03-04
This actually looks sort of interesting, even though the trailers I've seen stopped just sort of inserting a (RECORD SCRATCH).
|
Aelric - 2011-03-04 Well, one trailer shows the back of a human head that looks like Hunter driving the Red Shark somewhere around Barstow near the edge of the desert. That combines with the fact that it's Depp, some of the mannerisms are similar and obviously the shirt are making a lot of folks make a lot of assumptions.
|
Aelric - 2011-03-04 Wow, that was meant to be a reply of StanleyPain three comments up. My aim is off today
|
fedex - 2011-03-04 I am a lot of folks
|
Anaxagoras - 2011-03-04 Yeah... the character from Fear & Loathing makes an (awesome) cameo appearance near the beginning.
|
Ursa_minor - 2011-03-04
Goddamn, amazing character design.
|
poorwill - 2011-03-04
I like the Pixar movies I've seen, but goddamn I am sick of every cg animated movie trying to look like a Pixar movie, and I hope that if this is good it does well.

|
Macho Nacho - 2011-03-04
This actually looks like a pretty good movie.
|
Chalkdust - 2011-03-04
refreshingly menacing and morbid for a movie ostensibly appropriate for kids
|
Jet Bin Fever - 2011-03-04
Surprisingly watchable. I was almost certain it would be shite.
|
Anaxagoras - 2011-03-04
I saw this last night; pretty much the whole movie is as good as this clip.
|
Dread Pirate Roberts - 2011-03-04
Wow, I'm gonna have to go see this. It's nice to see a CG movie done with a little imagination, rather just brightly colors spheres running around with children.
|
memedumpster - 2011-03-04
If it wasn't for talking animals, this CG would have fooled me.
|
Squeamish - 2011-03-05
Yeah. I'm seeing this.
|
thebaronsdoctor - 2011-03-14
This movie seems to be shaping up to be another Kung Fu Panda for me: One that seems like it would be terrible from the description but surprises everyone by being awesome.
The use of atmosphere and the character designs look wonderful.
