Caminante Nocturno - 2011-03-02

Hey, poor people!

There goes your welfare!

And there goes your clean drinking water!

Ooh, that one was a quality education for your kids!

I hope you didn't want affordable health care, because there it goes!

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!

Cena_mark - 2011-03-02

Yeah Cammy, some welfare broodmares cigarette money is way more important than our military...

paranex - 2011-03-02

Cena -- you're a conservative. What takes up an inordinate amount of federal spending? Defense. Mind you, very little of it goes to soldiers and most of that spending has only a tangent relationship to national security.

The vast majority goes to the private defense contractors who make up the bulk of defense infrastructure. (That, incidentally, is why the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are bankrupting us -- a guy working for Halliburton or KBR gets 0K a year to do a job a soldier used to do for half that amount). You want to bitch about welfare queens? Why not bitch about Boeing and Raytheon instead of poor people who get

oddeye - 2011-03-02

If the US did not throw vast sums of money into "defense" then chickenhawks and rednecks couldn't pop a boner everytime they look at the flag.

Tom Collins - 2011-03-02

WAR

baleen - 2011-03-02

It's funny though. Our military allows for free shipping, at least in the NAVY, very fast, and basically the most secure you can imagine, all over the world.

I won't bother to tell you how this has benefited people in developing countries who's international shipping systems are controlled by legitimized gangsters, but I will say it has fundamentally transformed my extended family in the Philippines. Hint: We help a lot of people and nobody ever hears about it.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2011-03-02

Would all of you just shut the fuck up, some of us are trying to ENJOY the Money Hole.

Cena_mark - 2011-03-02

I digress. That is money that could go towards more National Security Cutters.

simon666 - 2011-03-02

I'll just add that the description was a play on how much international shipping costs. Try fedexing something from the west coast to EU that weighs 3 pounds; over a hundred dollars. Totally ridiculous.

Anyway, the description was a gag and not a commentary on military spending. Politics aside, I think it's pretty awesome the Army can deliver 4 humvees out of the back of a plane.

simon666 - 2011-03-02

Here's a vid where you can see the parachutes deploy for a humvee drop. Watch for random spaces in the url:

Oscar Wildcat - 2011-03-02

Mark: I'd go easy on the comments about poor mothers. Look around you at basic. Any of your squaddies graduate from Harvard or Yale? Where do you think a volunteer army comes from?

Cena_mark - 2011-03-02

Get off my plane!

fedex - 2011-03-02

wheeee!

Johnny Madhouse - 2011-03-02

Why is this happening?

NineEleven - 2011-03-02

Freedom ain't free.

Oscar Wildcat - 2011-03-02

Apparently this is part of the new economic stimulus plan. We are bombing the enemy with Hummers to prop up the auto industry. The actual damage is done when the enemy starts to drive around in them...

BTW, for some reason, watching those things fly out the back of the airplane made me laugh hysterically. It's like something out of a Joseph Heller novel.

chumbucket - 2011-03-02

This is how we need to start flooding foreign markets with US cars.

Senator_Unger - 2011-03-02

Am I the only one who wants to be in one of those Humvees when they go out?
