They had websites in the 80s in Canada?!

kingarthur - 2011-02-21

Canadians have it so much better: cable internet in the 80s, universal health care, Vancouver....

Rape Van Winkle - 2011-02-21

This aired last week. It's just Canada.

jyrque - 2011-02-21

80s tag?

Rape Van Winkle - 2011-02-21

There should be ads like this where the abuser is a woman. I am not making a joke.

Supahfly - 2011-02-21

I thought the exact same thing. They could easily make the abuser gender-neutral too.

Anaxagoras - 2011-02-21

I thought sexual abusers are usually male? Or am I misinformed?

Rape Van Winkle - 2011-02-21

About 75% of reported abusers are male, but there have been studies indicating that in terms of actual abuse it's about 50/50. It's not always a matter of gratification. With female sexual abusers, it's often for control or humiliation. Kids who live through something like that often feel like their the only person in the world who's ever experienced anything like it. We don't see crazy abusive mothers or aunts or sisters in PSAs or after school specials or movies, unless the villain's life is shown in flashbacks, to explain why he's crazy and evil. Poor fucking kids. It's actually the most psychologically damaging kind of abuse.

That creepy children's laughter is a Canadian sound-effects staple. You might also recognize it from the opening of "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"

THE MORE YOU KNOW!

Creepy but effective. Canada does everything better.
