The original casting was Tim Curry, which was what mandated the creation of Harley Quinn, as both a shout out to Little Nell and an attempt to butch his characterization up a little. Fox Execs were still unimpressed and Hamill was called in, Harley was kept (luckily) and the rest is history.

I'd give a testicle to hear the Tim Curry tapes, though.
