After decades of delay (Fuck you Tom Delay! Fuck you Dan Patrick!) there's only a single 7 mile line running down S. Main St., open only for the past 6 years. So most drivers have little experience driving around rail.

Then some idiot decided the whole thing should look as subdued bus like as possible, and painted them a metallic grey that disappears into the concrete and overcast skies, with little lights.
They look like oversized Honda Odyssey minivans from the front. If they were serious about reducing accidents, they'd repaint at least the front of each optic/neon lime, and add some serious (perhaps modulating) lighting.

or make it a clearly-signed moving violation to take a left turn into the lane in which the train travels..

They only look like vans from the front? well no wonder everybody keeps pulling in front of them. Everybody knows that vans are not solid objects and will pass harmlessly through your vehicle if you cut them off.

If they're like the trams where I am, they produce a stealthy hum. They are huge and hard to miss, though.
