By the time this was made, the world had more or less moved on, and Chaplin was well into his good-intention Socialist phase. If more people saw this, he'd be a little bit more villainized than he is.
I love this whole movie, and it's evidence of how much our society has lost in the latter half of the 20th century, where standing up for the little guy is now a dead end, comedically.
