Apparently, she had her niece/intern do the research and write this for her. Ridiculousness requiring book reading...her one weakness.

I once listened, rapturously, to about three hours of similar rant on EWTN radio. I wish to GOD I had taped it, because in hindsight it was the nerdiest, whiniest, most virginal thing I had ever encountered on the public airwaves. Maybe it just felt longer, but it was just too absurd and lovely to turn off.
I love EWTN, it's bonkers beyond belief most of the time, and in a charming way, unlike most talk radio.

Wait, feminism KEEPS people from researching things from an engendered perspective?

Wow, those 40 minutes were a real strange way of saying "J.R.R. Tolkien doesn't know how to write women characters very well so he didn't".
Oh, and Rob Reiner didn't write "Stand by Me", he just directed it. He *was* involved in writing "Spinal Tap" and that didn't feature women, so I guess her point can be made with that.
Though he did write for "All in the Family" and that featured women, while all Tolkien wrote were tomes about Middle-Earth where women were predominately background fixtures or short stories where women weren't present at all (injected opinion: Farmer Giles of Ham fucking rules and it didn't take me a goddamn year to read, so piss off Lord of the Rings).
If you read the books and noticed that character relationships between men had strong foundations and organically developed, relationships between men and women were tacked on as afterthoughts and did not change, and relationships between women DID NOT EXIST then congratulations: you are a normal person. If you didn't then you are Christine O'Donnell and you are reading things in the books that simply aren't there.
And where did she get the idea that the Arwen was the most important female character in the trilogy? Because she married Aragorn? Hell, Eowyn at least was able to kill somebody by using the POWER OF DOUBLE ENTENDRE!
My God, I could keep going on about this, but the more I type the stupider my post gets, and I've only gotten ~12 minutes into the clip so far. So I'll just shut up now.

As someone on PoE said, you don't have to watch all 45 minutes, but you really owe it to yourself to skip around a bit. All of it is the Good Part

Lurchi - 2010-09-21 I watched every minute and I was not sorry.
