This was the one that didn't have MST3K on it.

It was acquired by Comedy Central and the monopolies that they had over their respective cableland territories ceased to exist. I didn't get CC on my cable, HA! simply dissolved into it. Penn Jilette's awful announcing voice then took over.

I was a huge fan of Night after Night with Alan Havey in 9th grade. Me and my friend wrote the show and they sent us two bars of Mobley Hotel Soap.

Comedy Central wasn't Comedy Central yet, though. It was still Comedy Channel, and was doing things like giving the Higgins Boys and Gruber something like 4 hours of airtime 5 days a week.

Old_Zircon - 2010-07-29

In fact, I might be misremembering (and don't feel like googling it), but I think Ha! was MTV's attempt to compete with the Comedy Channel, and they were merged when MTV bought Comedy Channel and renamed it Comedy Central.

baleen - 2010-07-29

Yeah that's right, it was Comedy Channel and was owned by a big network like HBO or something and Ha was MTV/Viacom. Ha also had Short Attention Span Theater which as as 13 year old I thought was funny.

Nostalgia overload.

HA! was the comedy channel owned by Viacom which eventually closed down and merged with the HBO/Time-Warner owned Comedy Channel and eventually became Comedy Central.

HA! was mostly sketch comedy and a lot of sitcom reruns while the Comedy Channel featured lots of clips of classic comedy flicks and standup comics plus episodes of shows like Supercar and Lancelot Link for some reason. Oh and TCC had MST3K (which survived the network shuffle) and comic Rich Hall's bizarre and surreal and pretty funny "Onion World" (which only lasted a season).

Higgins Boys and Gruber!

Caminante Nocturno - 2010-07-29

I remember so little about Onion World besides loving it.

hornung - 2010-07-29

Onion World was the Daily Show before the Daily Show.
Rich Hall was genius.

Sniglets are still funny, shut up.

Old_Zircon - 2010-07-29

Before my family had cable we used to go to our neighbor's house once a week to watch Not Necessarily the News on her TV. Rich Hall was the main reason.

Rape Van Winkle - 2010-07-29

I didn't have cable back then. But a kid in my class, who was a good friend, who I also hate, quoted this all the god damned time. While lifting a chair with his legs.

Fucker made off with a bunch of my comic books.

Old_Zircon - 2010-07-29

Weird, the kid in middle school I knew who quoted this all the time stole my entire Bloom County collection. I guess this was the network of comic thieves.
