I don't have a tattoo, but I can't possibly imagine it hurts as much as she seems to think it does.
|
spikestoyiu - 2010-05-24 I'd guess about 30% of my body is covered and they're painfully -- some areas obviously moreso than others -- but this is ridiculous. My first guess after watching this was that she was on... something; I've never seen anyone react like this, ever.
|
StanleyPain - 2010-05-24 It doesn't. The best way to describe it I can think of is basically like being given shallow cuts with a sharp knife. It hurts and the filling-in work can be a lot to take sometimes at once depending on the person, but if you're wigging out like this, you might not be good for a tattoo.
|
dueserpenti - 2010-05-24 Tattoos hurt, but you've felt worse. It's like getting a sunburn painted on. That particular location on the arm is a good one for tattoos, plenty of flesh and not near any major nerve clusters until you get to the armpit. I have a bicep tattoo twice the size of that and was practically falling asleep through most of it. But women really do have a lower pain tolerance than men, so it may feel completely different to her.
|
charmlessman - 2010-05-24 Yeah, it's not NEARLY that bad. I was dozing off when I got mine in the same spot. It's like someone's scratching you REALLY hard.

|
klingerbgoode - 2010-05-24 really, the studies i read said that women actually have a much higher pain tolerance.
|
kennydra - 2010-05-24 women do have a much MUCH higher pain tolerance. but we are more sensitive to pain, that is the difference. as in we literally feel pain more intensely than men. if men felt the pain we do they would like die. which is why, ladies, if you need pain meds, see a female doc!
anyway i have tattoos and i did fall asleep while getting them. there are sooo many things more painful than getting a tat. like having a hangnail, or a particularly rough sneeze.
|
augias - 2010-05-24 If women feel pain more intensely, then that means they have a lower tolerance for pain??? Thats what i read today ON THE INTERNET.

dueserpenti - 2010-05-24 The "women have a higher pain tolerance" myth comes from watching women give birth, and in those circumstances may actually be true (they say that kidney stones are the closest male experience, but I've had them and that can't possibly be true) but in the main, "For experimentally delivered somatic stimuli, females have lower thresholds, greater ability to discriminate, higher pain ratings, and less tolerance of noxious stimuli than males," according to a study done at Florida State. Pain tolerance isn't good or bad; saying that some people have a lower pain tolerance doesn't make them weaker anymore than having a lower tolerance for sunlight makes them weaker.
|
spikestoyiu - 2010-05-24 I've gone through multiple 6-7 hour sittings (I have some pretty huge pieces on my legs) and they usually start out kinda painful, then they get a little easier as you get settled in, but then your skin decides it's sick of this shit and that's when it hurts the worst.
Laser tattoo removal hurts far worse than tattoos, but thankfully that shit is a lot faster than tattooing. Serves me right for getting a tattoo at 17, when I was definitely a dumbass.

Thats a pretty big picture on her arm already so I think she's being a trooper (albeit vociferous) about it. 5 stars for the artist putting up with the bleating though.
|
BillLumbergh - 2010-05-24 ...you have a point. I was a bit unfair. she might have taken it like a shrieking demon, but at least she took it.
but man was she shrieking.
|
Architeuthis Tux - 2010-05-24 I've had a considerably larger area done in a single, non-stop 4 hour session. It wasn't any big deal.
But then the vasectomy didn't hurt as much for me as it did for the guy in the room next door either.

No wonder it's so noisy around Fulton & Nostrand all the time: the trains and this chick.
Five stars for the artist showing perfect torturer's indifference.

I think its a psychological thing for her. Like getting a tattoo is a cathartic experience for past pain. So she is letting it all out. Or maybe its a sexual thing?

sounds like a kid who had their videogames taken away.
|
MrBuddy - 2010-05-24 It reminds me of the pre-schooler who trips and falls, gets up and starts to walk away, then stops, looks around, realized someone is watching and bursts into tears.
Menudo con queso's right. If I were the tattoo artist it would be hard for me not to grab her by the shirt collar with one hand and slap her with the other... you know... just to make her a little less hysterical, not because she was pissing me off by making me deaf with shrieking or anything.

This, right here, is the way to advertise people. Showing your customers experience agony at your business's hands.

Should have been warned to turn the volume down. Should have guessed on my own from the description. Either way I'm pretty sure I lost some hearing.

My guess is that she was getting a tattoo of her boyfriends name, and halfway through he dropped her like a hot (shrieking) potato.

What could have been a cool statement of any sort is now a permanent testament to wussiness.
