There's the Onion headline. The only thing Seinfeld adds to it is the characters repeating a word or phrase back and forth in question form for 30 minutes.

I guess the open ended real life concepts translated well into water cooler discussions, but no way did the actual show come anywhere near The Office, 30 Rock, Arrested Development, or even the waning years of the Simpsons.

Hell, the TV guide descriptions were funnier than the actual episodes.

They taped it in front of an audience.
