How did this happen?

augias - 2010-04-18

I guess they met in college and hit it off.

happninmojo - 2010-04-18

The "Sega Activator Bodyring"? Man I thought the only game that worked with was Eternal Champions.

My stars go for Ebert being suprised by the fact that boxing has rounds and stating "I'm tiring!"...

I could never take Siskel and Ebert seriously, they hated almost every horror movie except for classics that they know they couldn't dismiss, like Psycho or the Living Dead series, and set about denouncing violence in movies at nearly every turn. They'd make exceptions though if the director was well known though.

Plus the Valley of the Dolls naturally.

Adham Nu'man - 2010-04-18

This whole video is art.

RomancingTrain - 2010-04-18

No wonder he hates videogames if the Sega Activator Ring was his introduction to the medium.

spikestoyiu - 2010-04-18

I don't think he ever said he hated videogames, he just stated that he didn't believe they were art. And apparently everyone needs to validate every one of the Internet's interests or else they've made a lifelong, greasy enemy.

Ebert reviews the NES Ninja Turtles game here.

happninmojo - 2010-04-18

It could be worse, he could have played the Virtual Boy...

Hooker - 2010-04-18

Well, I laughed like an idiot.

Meerkat - 2010-04-18

They really need to pick those things up with both hands and hold them behind themselves.

replicant - 2010-04-18

siskel and ebert week? if only..

Spit Spingola - 2010-04-18

Great flailing.

fluffy - 2010-04-18

Siskel and Ebert fully endorse the use of a Lady's Remington.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-04-19

Don't say X is not art unless you're sure you won't live long enough to see it become art.

(*Making* games has always been an art, but I suppose that's something different.)

athodyd - 2010-04-19

hahaha yeah dude that's gonna happen any day now

pastorofmuppets - 2010-04-19

It's not that I think there's anything special about video games, but in general it's pretty dumb to point at one arbitrary shuffling of sights and sounds and say "art's possible there" and then point at another and say "art's not possible there." Goldsworthy is probably making art with bear shit as we speak.

Nikon - 2011-10-30

Some games are art.

"Ebert is simply filling a role played out by art critics throughout history. There was the newspaper headline back in 1959 with regards to Jackson Pollock’s work that said “This is not art — it’s a joke in bad taste.” It’s a funny line but time has proven it was also completely wrong. Ebert has thrown his hat in with the rest of the short sighted critics who would rather debate what is or isn’t art, rather than simply enjoy the work of artists."

To his credit, Ebert eventually took what he said back, admitting that games can be art but that he doesn't play and review games.

icemanflam - 2010-04-19

I enjoyed the fact they were arguing about the result just as the video ended.

Sudan no1 - 2010-04-19
