Imagine a boot, stamping on this man's face...forever.

Enjoy - 2010-04-05

I couldn't make it through the last half. Can I assume he said "crowdsourcing" and an audience member punched him hard enough that he could never say it again?

Cleaner82 - 2010-04-05

Every time the boot smashes into the cartilage of his nose, a one-up noise.

Sudan no1 - 2010-04-05

I want to stamp on his dick until his prostate falls out of his balls.

Manwhore.

Cube - 2010-04-05

Is it too late to build a time machine and send a nuclear bomb to the future to prevent this from happening?

memedumpster - 2010-04-05

The first time an advertisement is intentionally inserted into my dreams, I will firebomb the corporate office of the company who made it.

The future depicted here deserves to end in horrifying violence.

Five for so evil it made me hate the future.

KillerGazebo - 2010-04-05

Fuck, I'm moving to Africa.

augias - 2010-04-05

Positive reinforcement will solve everything

kingofthenothing - 2010-04-05

What's going to stop it? Probably the third world, religious idiots, and my bitchin' army of clones I'll make with 3D printers in the year 2050.

Tuan Jim - 2010-04-05

Well, this went from interesting to crazy.

The Mothership - 2010-04-05

So... the next step in human evolution will come when benign video game designers are allowed to reconstruct society into a video game?

I think his 'mario coin' sound maker thingy has gone to his head.

Urburos - 2010-04-05

SUPER BONUS POINTS?!?

+5 stars!
+5 stars!
+5 stars!

roughnready66 - 2010-04-05

Hey, wha' happened?

Monkey Napoleon - 2010-04-05

Forgetting completely about how this guy thinks invading every single aspect of your personal life with advertising is a good thing...

He's a dummy, and it could never work the way he describes it. Yes, if you can reward people for leading productive lives then they might do it. The flaw in his reasoning falls short when you consider that for this to work, you need to get Coke to agree that drinking 3 cans of Coke a day should be worth a certain amount of points, while jogging a mile should be worth a certain amount of points that is more valuable than the 3 cans of Coke points.

This will never ever ever ever ever happen, and you'll end up with people doing the activities that get them the most points instead of what's best for them.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2010-04-05

I think theres already a reward system for living productive lives. Namely wealth.

Monkey Napoleon - 2010-04-05

Do you ever get tired of being a pedant who misses the point of comments completely to fixate on a single word that was perhaps not the best choice of words?

Fuck it, lets say "productive" is exactly what I meant (it wasn't). Now YOU define "productive". If by "productive", you mean doing whatever you need to do to make a buck... well yeah. Is that always what's ethically best for people? Isn't that pretty much exactly what this guy is saying?

Goddamnit you suck.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2010-04-05

*MWAH*

pastorofmuppets - 2010-04-06

I'm with TSR here. Granted, you've gotta have money to make money but, yeah. Societies already reinforce behavior in creepy ways, throwing Mario sounds into it won't change much.

Maybe I'm giving the video a little too much credit, but it reminds me a lot of One-Dimensional Man, specifically the idea of false needs.

AmericanAir - 2010-04-05

becoming Better and more prodUctive isn't sillY. Come On people, this ideology could be the KEy to our utopia.

voodoo_pork - 2010-04-05

-500 pts for rEtardeD CaPS.

dueserpenti - 2010-04-05

It's a joke, dum-dum.

The future sounds awesometardedly crapdiculous.

Aelric - 2010-04-06

I SomEtimEs Wonder wHAT sillY crap the hOrrid fUture will Doom us In the enD. iT would be HorriblE if this guy was Right on thE money.

I'm not so good at this, am I?

themilkshark - 2010-04-06

I want a coke real bad now and I don't know why.

RomancingTrain - 2010-04-05

Immediately takes a nosedive into crazy town at 5:15.

Candlejackv616 - 2010-04-05

Totally agree, up till about half way point, I was more or less like " well a good portion of his ideas are pretty cool and sorta plausible, couple of stinkers though and really impossible ones, but so far so good" then like you said it nose dives into some dumb implausible, and just pretty unnecessary concepts.

Dinanukht - 2010-04-05

"The system is listening. And it can tell that we said Pop-Tarts."

egglab - 2010-04-05

easily 5 stars of evil, more of a Brave New World thing than an Orwellian one though, Big Brother never struck me as a points kind of guy.

fatatty - 2010-04-05

Holy shit Jesse Schell. Weird. I was just at this guy's company Halloween party.

He makes children's MMORPGs for Disney, so he's already preparing the next generation for his dystopian future. It all makes sense now.

memedumpster - 2010-04-05

You get +1000XP for assassinating him before 2011.

Monkey Napoleon - 2010-04-05

That actually does explain a lot. If he'd ever been involved in long term MMORPG development for a legit MMORPG, he would understand how stupid this is.

voodoo_pork - 2010-04-05

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: E-Stupid Douchebag.com!

- Complete an entire moronic presentation about a unlikely hypothetical future.

Reipuman - 2010-04-05

Implausible because it's too complex and half-understood to work.
Horrifying because that will never stop them from trying.

Brought to you by Carl's Jr.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-04-06

Exactly. Anyone who think at least the first half of this is not going to happen doesn't understand advertising math. The toothbrush thing is something that I'm surprised doesn't already exist. How is it that different from a Withings scale?

RockBolt - 2010-04-05

Yes, when in this day and age they are changing fonts in newsprint to save 0.05¢ worth of ink per copy, I am sure coke cans with WIFI and touchscreens are just around the corner

boner - 2010-04-05

New Media Douchebag.

Enjoy - 2010-04-05

If we can make that a tag, I have some awesome examples to post.

Konversekid - 2010-04-05

So some company will just inflate the points received until they are the only company that provides any relevant amount of points.

Also this will eventually lead to losing points by committing crimes and acts of violence, which is against conventional gaming, real game developers would never let that happen.

Cleaner82 - 2010-04-05

People are using words like 'douchebag' but this man is evil. He is like a villain from fiction. This is what scares me about the advertising profession -- that this is what they think is positive and cool and they cannot wait, CANNOT WAIT for this hell to arrive.

sosage - 2010-04-05

This is what happens when you've worked 60 hour weeks tweaking MMO's. You wind up presenting the running nerdy joke your co-workers have made during every lunch break as a serious social restructuring project: without noticing the nightmare scenario you just got caught endorsing publicly to nervous laughter.

Hooker - 2010-04-05

Do you lose points for having a permanently downturned mouth that makes you look depressed and sad?

Riskbreaker - 2010-04-05

You can tell his debate team always hated him.

Rafiki - 2010-04-05

"But I do know it's coming. It's gotta come! What's gonna stop it?"

Oh, well, when you put it like that, it's all so obvious!

garcet71283 - 2010-04-05

Garcet71283 attacks Hooker.
Takes 10 damage
Hooker is destroyed.
Garcet71283 receives 500 experience points.
Garcet71283 has gained a level!
Garcet71283 is now level 26!
+5 strength
+3 dexterity
+2 constitution
+5 intelligence
+2 wisdom
+1 charisma

Hooker - 2010-04-06

At least I was a ding kill.

citrusmirakel - 2010-04-05

"The bussss, why am I talkin' the bhusss!?"

I hate this man so much.

a flaming monkey - 2010-04-05

Serial rapist receives 40,000 points for devirginising 5 young women!!! Victims receive 20,000 points for surviving encounter. Bonus 200 points for making a police report. Policemen get 1000 points for putting out all points alert. Bonus Stage! Night stick as many black people as possible!

What is fantasy football?

pastorofmuppets - 2010-04-06

So many thoughts, maybe I'm crazy too.
- part of what prevents this is that the people who would enjoy it would rather get their grinding fix from a fictional game. Why mess around with toiletries when you can raid dungeons or whatever?
- He mentions people improving themselves because of surveillance. Assuming the surveillance happens, maybe people just stop judging each other so much? All those drunk FB pics aren't going to keep kids from getting jobs. People are just going to stop giving a shit about it, because nobody benefits. Game theory, anyone?
- He has no idea what computing resources this would take. WOW has how many people on it? Certainly not 300 million, certainly not 24/7. Saying "yeah but computers will get faster" doesn't mean shit when the problem scales that large.
- If this comes to pass, what will happen is that the people who waste their time on it will just hold themselves back. It'll be a form of OCD. If you want to move up in the world, you'll have to learn to ignore it.

FIN

Wonko the Sane - 2010-04-06

Watched the whole thing waiting for the 1up noise.

Spoiler: It doesn't happen.

Rudy - 2010-04-06

I keep waiting for this douchebag to take a breath.

Lauritz Melchior - 2010-04-06

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CREATING EXALTED VIDEO GAMES AND VIRTUAL REALITIES WHEREIN IDEAS HAVE CONSEQUENCES

themilkshark - 2010-04-06

Do not want.

fluffy - 2010-12-10

For some reason I keep thinking he's wearing a cape.
