This is the reason vidya games were invented.

I'm also tempted to buy this game, now. Thx for the advertising.

pineapplejuicer - 2010-03-31

truly worth it. k-mart had it for last week, idk if thats still true.

Camonk - 2010-03-31

Buy it immediately. It's so good.

Explodotron - 2010-03-31

Reminds me of all the crazy stuff you can do in Saints Row 2. I guess I'm out now.

pineapplejuicer - 2010-03-31

imagine saints row 2 but about 10 times bigger with a parachute and grappling hook always at your disposal. not quite as sadistic as saints row 2 (you can't dress up like a psycho or take people hostage) but the scope of the game is amazing.

and i swear i dont work for these people.

Camonk - 2010-03-31

I tethered the little stunt jet to a fighter plane and both spun out of control and I parachuted to safety. Only to turn around and grab another fighter jet and tether it to an armored car. I coudln't tell you why.

RocketBlender - 2010-03-31

It's kind of like if you combined Saints Row 2 with Far Cry 2 and Mercenaries. Also, as said before, the game is HUGE. Right now I'm at 33 hours and 35%

RocketBlender - 2010-03-31

Granted, a good few hours of that IS solid messing around, but that's always a sign of a good game, you CAN spend several hours in it doing literally nothing.

RocketBlender - 2010-03-31

He's right about everything. I've really enjoyed tethering people to those barrels that rocket off when you shoot them, good fun. Me and a friend have been playing it nonstop, swapping out every 'liberated' village or death. At 20 hours we've hit 29%.

All that said: Why the fuck didn't I think of this? Brilliant!

Cleaner82 - 2010-03-31

That rope is very strong.

The demo for this game is better than most game games, incidentally.

RocketBlender - 2010-03-31

What really sold me on this was after playing the demo and seeing like 1/16th of what was in it, they showed that I had seen roughly 1/20th of the entire map.

StanleyPain - 2010-03-31

I think leading people down the Saint's Row 2 path is a little misleading because this game has nowhere near as much stuff to do. A better description is that it is basically the Mercenaries/Just Cause 1 formula tweaked in such a way that the developers realized players would rather have fun playing a game rather than getting their ass kicked for 30 hours and barely being able to pass missions with the luck of the draw. The "buying" equipment mechanic is still there, but it's more of a back up than anything else since the game is quite generous in handing you free vehicles and weapons instead of giving you a huge world to play in and then taking away your toys. Also the cable-arm gimmick totally removes the maddening frustration of these types of games by giving you the ability to escape from danger relatively quickly if need be. Oh, and as hard as the game can get sometimes, the soldiers do not have the inhuman ability to lock onto your brainwaves and send every bullet to your exact location from miles away. They actually have to aim first which requires you standing still.

So no hotdog suit?

Camonk - 2010-03-31

There's not as much MISSION VARIETY. But there's tons more non-mission things to do than in Saints Row. Plus there's a very similar aesthetic and unwillingness to treat anything seriously.

kingofthenothing - 2010-03-31

I had no clue what game you guys are all referring to, but as a video, it's actually pretty good, and relatively relaxing, despite all the plane crashes.

Camonk - 2010-03-31

"Relatively relaxing, despite all the plane crashes" is pretty much the perfect description of Just Cause 2.

Syd Midnight - 2010-03-31

Long ago I hoped the Matrix sequels would be this, video gamers doing really immature shit with broken physics and displays of omnipotence while onlookers stare dumbfounded.

To be fair they had a couple scenes like that but everything else sucked.

Nithing - 2010-03-31

Yeah this game is pretty fantastic despite having physics from another dimension. The voice acting though, sweet Jesus. Bolo Santosi needs to be heard to be believed.

pineapplejuicer - 2010-03-31

thats actually one of my favorite little details i learned, almost everyone involved in the production of the game was swedish so a lot of the voiceovers are swedes doing really, really awful indonesian accents, comb-raid.

Nithing - 2010-03-31

That really doesn't help explain why the Swedish ex-pat guy at the begining changes accent mid-sentence.

oddeye - 2010-03-31

Just tried the demo, holy shit I hope it comes down in price soon.
