Son of a bitch, I knew a guy like this in college - same speech patterns and everything. Always going on about how college was just BULLSHIT that "The Man" (he said in a way where you heard the capital letters) was trying to force on you.

So why he was attending, I don't know. I mean, he made a big deal about how he was makin' it through college on his own, through his own sweat and effort and everybody else there was just a spoiled trust-fund baby if they got so much as a few dollars now and then from their parents...the guy was an obnoxious ball of contradictions.

What you're supposed to be learning is not just "facts," but also how to make sense of information. Sure you can read Moby Dick or Plato or scientific journal articles on the interwebs, but actually engaging productively with the text is a skill that is difficult and takes practice, as well as a base of background knowledge that you actually know inside your mindbrain. Not to mention that most information on the internet is facile or wrong, and you're unlikely to even know what it is you're looking for.
