Oh thank god, I was afraid people were giving Carlin less than 5 stars.

heyitslozeau - 2010-03-10

What paultards beat off to. This same silly diatribe is repeated by hackysacking dipshits on state college campuses all over the world right before these people promptly sit on their asses and do nothing.

giygusattack - 2010-03-10

psssst, your troll is showing.

Cena, is that you?

The libertarian types are the ones he's complaining about, not the paranoid kooks but the rich fucking corporations that run the country through lobbying. Those are the assholes who really appreciate Ayn Rand. Government is fine if you own it and use it to control and fuck over lowly workers over, in fact that's its only use.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-03-10

The real owners are the voters, and half of them believe in sky cake. He's right about the corporations but education is fucked for an entirely different reason.

It's paranoid. I could see where someone who'd glimpsed a 5-second window of free thought at the tail end of the 60s and watched it get slammed shut again would come away thinking this. But it's still paranoid.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-03-10

* said sky cake when i meant YEC

fatatty - 2010-03-11

The real owners are the wealthy people of this country. They do have most of the wealth. I haven't seen anyone prove the college kids wrong.

Money always matters more than voters. The voters change and the sky cake changes but the money always stays the same.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-03-11

He was making a specific claim that wealthy people are sabotaging the education system, without the evidence to back it up. They have wealthy people in other countries, even countries with better schools. But they don't have our logistical problems, like 50 states with different guidelines trying to use the same textbooks. Also, I'd say that as a culture we don't value education half as much as we should.

(Hence my statement above concerning YEC that, fwiw, could have come off a lot less anti-religious.)

Forget these boogeyman wealthy people dumbing down their future employees. What do they have to gain from that, in a country where most of the economic value is moving from manufacturing to IP? The real problem is, as I type this, voting on whether or not to take Margaret Sanger out of the history books, or whether evolution is "just a theory." THAT is what we need to get fucking angry about.

fatatty - 2010-03-11

Alright yeah you're right. I was drunk when I read that and obviously wasn't thinking.

There are enough areas that the wealthy are actually the boogey men that I suppose we can leave them out of education. Although despite maybe not actively trying to sabotage our education system I think it's possible many of the wealthy are less concerned about public education since their children don't participate in it. And that apathy is probably part of the general cultural devaluing of education in our society. Which is probably even more harmful than the attacks of evolution, as anyone who gets a decent education will have to accept eventually.

I know I definitely didn't value it growing up. I'm not sure how we fight that, but the current trend towards valuing geeks and nerds more in society is promising.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-03-11

You're right. People who aren't sending their kids to public schools aren't going to worry about the quality of them. They are going to worry about lowering the school tax. There is some irony in that they would be influential enough to improve things.
