Actually when Games got a hold of it, it wasn't that bad if at all. If anything I think when Nick was over his shoulder making him tone down shit and be more subtle/hide things in his cartoons, John K's work was waaaay the hell better, definitely better than this crap. New Ren and Stimpy made Nickelodeon Ren and Stimpy look like high art.
Bear in mind that John K. was given Orson Welles creative control over the "Adult Party" cartoons, after Stephen Hillenburg turned down an "adult" version of Spongebob Squarepants.
You can read this two ways:
1. John K. is really that much of a hack, or
2. John K. had been planning this revenge for over a decade, and this may potentially be the greatest example of corporate sabotage in a very, very long time.
Bear in mind that immediately following the Ren and Stimpy Adult Party was Stan Lee's "Stripperella", so I'm thinking it's option #1.
Billy West did some good episodes, is just that John K has this mythical image build upon himself. As others said, nickelodeon tunning down this was a blessing in disguise. Ren & Stimpy where funny when they were subtle, when they were more bizarre/surreal than disgusting (see Space Madness episode) The best moments had little or nothing to do with body fluids.
In short: John K has the sense of humour of a frat boy obsessed with fart/puke jokes and gay innuendos. He's a good animator, that can't be denied, but he has no place at all working on a script.
No he wasn't intentionally ruining Ren & Stimpy. This is what Kricfalusi wanted Ren & Stimpy to be. This is how his cartoons turn out when he's given free reign.
Nobody wants to admit he's a hack and the network's "meddling" was what made Ren & Stimpy worth watching.
Not quite, I could be wrong but this is actually what the audience at the time said the wanted from a new Ren and Stimpy cartoon and JohnK delivered on that request.
