GOD DAMMIT! What the fuck is wrong with jogging/biking/whatever and some strength work? This causes me to feel rage. I hate everything about the modern fitness industry.

People have no idea how hard it is to put on the sort of muscle that's considered bulky. You can work out all you want and get plenty strong without really bulking up.
