I used to be an editor for a punk fanzine that was based off of Eugene from this movie. Good to see that other people have seen it!

I don't think I know anyone who hasn't seen it.

I saw it when I was very young, so it educated me to the state of American punk very early on. Though, when I saw it, Rollins had just become notable as Black Flag's current singer, so it confused me a little when he wasn't in it.

There's also a sequel which is all about metal.

Darby Crash really made the movie memorable for me.

It's depressing because it's 1980 and these kinda guys knew what was really going on. "Metal Years" is depressing in a different way, and most of the bands are contemptible and clueless.

"Metal Years" is really easy to find in video stores, but the original is more obscure.

This was pretty much my fantasy lifestyle when I was sixteen.

I've seen 'The Metal Years' many times but I embarrassed to say I haven't seen this yet. I need to sort that out.

I'm kind of amazed at how (relatively) normal and good natured these guys are considering how much they freaked people out.

This is what real punks look like.
