"The katana: cuts through jelly as if it were jelly."

wait... so their evidence that katanas cut through the gaijin weapons is... a movie about barbarians fighting with not-katanas? and... wait an AXE?
Didn't that just prove that knights are better warriors than samurai?

No sword would ever make it through an armor. But most of them would pierce them. When europeans understood that (fricking arrows thought them), they let off armors and favored mobility and durability.
This is the reason that swords became progressively thinner with time, from full fledge claymores down to rapiers and finally down to a foil (aka, arrow with a handle).
Japanese katanas aren't meant to go through swords, gun barrels or armor. They're razor blades. In Katori Shinto Ryu, you're thought about precise armor-avoiding cuts that cause hindrance and ultimately, death, once you've removed your opponent's armor.
Not wearing armor? Then you slice him in half.
There. I've exposed all of my swordsmanship nerdiness to you. That's what 5 years of european medieval sword wielding and 7 years of Katori Shinto Ryu does to you.
This video is dumb though. Conan never sliced through his father's sword. He broke it because it was old and worn.

Look, a katana does d10 and a long sword does d8. End of story.

Your dilettantish ignorance is an embarrassment to everyone here.

Camonk - 2009-10-23 Holy Christ. You are not using a six year old supplement for an out of date edition. That is terrible. Shave your beard now. Go watch anime with the rest of the babbys.

Boxhead - 2009-10-23 Thank you Camonk. Using the 'Full Blade', a weapon from a 3rd edition Dungeons and Dragons supplement, i.e. the edition in which TSR lost control and WOTC (or WOTzis, amirite) began corrupting the spirit of D&D from proper simulation of a fantasy world to focusing more on the 'game' aspects of it is a joke.
Katana, best single-handed sword possible, period.
Learn it, Love it, Live by it.
