You're right in that they did hold the House for twelve years, but they got in back in '94 by articulating a philosophy, even if it was just "say no to Clinton" and by making it palatable to independents.

And the same people are STILL saying the Republican party is imploding (smugly, from the confines of anywhere but a voting booth).

While I think it's true the Republicans are having problems holding their coalition together, that doesn't mean people of good conscience should just sit idly back and wait for the Republicans to fall apart on their own. The Republican Party may produce some terrible candidates but they also know how to drum up voters.

I've said a thousand times that the Republicans' appeal over the past fifty years has everything to do with the Civil Rights Act, and as their racism grows more and more overt, it's increasingly difficult to deny. But I think there's an obligation that comes with that, that much of the Left won't man up and accept: the Republicans need to be vigorously opposed just on principle. That means voting them out in every election, not just the ones where ObamaGirl shakes her tits at you or an adorably rumpled old man from Vermont promises he can fix everything.

I'm just saying, if you made a Venn Diagram, there'd be some heavy overlap going on.
