Flapjack reminds me a lot of Maakies/Drinky Crow (old-school sailors in a world of pure nonsense) but with restraints on the humor. Those restraints are there for its own good, and ours. It is constantly testing the limits of said restraints, though, which is also for the best. Kind of like Rocko's Modern Life, except it tries to get away with creepy and disturbing humor instead of satiric sex jokes.

It's that same mix of funny and... well, the urge to do exactly what the guy on the right did.

After watching a few clips on Youtube, I would say it's more like Spongebob had a bastard child with Ren and Stimpy and it grew up feral.

They are hopelessly, almost tragically addicted to candy. The local bar serves big random piles of candy in beer glasses. His pirate mentor keeps a hip flask full of syrup on him at all times. He considers it his best friend.

Chowder's better, if just for Ceviche.

I saw a Flapjack episode written by the Adventure Time guy. I can only describe it as "the weirdest damn thing I've ever seen"

I don't know what Chowder is, but there's now way it's better than Flapjack. Flapjack is already too good for us.
