That's actually pretty hot.

MrBuddy - 2009-07-27

Hot? That video makes it look like my DNA is being copied by dryer lint.

socialist_hentai - 2009-07-26

Where is your god now?

Freeman Gordon - 2009-07-26

Anyone working with molecular biology here who can verify this video?

Walt Henderson - 2009-07-26

I'm no molecular biologist, but this is definitely how it works.

Five stars for scientific explanations that are way cooler than fairy tales.

gmol - 2009-07-26

It seems they did the animation with actual crystal structures, which is cool. We can't really simulate such a large collection of atoms across several seconds with any degree of accuracy, so the thermal motion and layout of the polymerase complex has sort of been modified so you can actually see what's going on, it would really be a blobby mess if you could see the process under a microscope.

Pillager - 2009-07-26

And that is how babby is formed.

HURF BLURF DUH - 2009-07-26

NO NO IT'S ALL GOD I CAN'T HEAR YOU LA LA LA LA LA LA LA

thebaronsdoctor - 2009-07-26

Wow, that's beautiful.

And it's humbling to think that even with all of the technological advances we've made over the years we're still unable to match the efficiency of the natural world.

Syd Midnight - 2009-07-27

DNA may be more accurate than a hard drive but lost disk clusters don't result in harlequin fetuses and flipper babies

Syd Midnight - 2009-07-27

Also RAID arrays can have checksum drives to eliminate errors, DNA could but it doesn't, so ha ha nature

Camonk - 2009-07-26

This is really complicated, so I'm just gonna refer back to Jesus if that's okay with everyone. I know, I know, one more har har creationism joke. Well, fuck you, you're not the boss of me.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2009-07-26

I can copy and uncopy my DNA at will.

Enjoy - 2009-07-26

"have evolved"

-2 stars for that last ignorant statement. No sane person can watch something as amazing as this and not marvel at creation.

poorwill - 2009-07-26

durr

Syd Midnight - 2009-07-27

This design is obviously the handiwork of a big man who lives in the sky and sends people to eternal torture if they do certain things with their pee pees.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-07-27

When you have a mess of different systems in front of you, ranging from simple to complex, and the more complex ones only appear later in history, pretty much according to their complexity, the idea of life self-adapting becomes harder and harder to shrug off.

Believing in a creator is not (in the sense of formal logic) incompatible with what's shown in that video. But taking issue with the mention of evolution in the context of DNA is like taking the intelligence that your creator has endowed you with and trading it for the ability to hawk huge loogies in his face.

I don't even understand it anymore, frankly. No sane person would deny the existence of DNA, or the possibility of mutations during DNA copying. Nobody questions natural selection, which is just a fancy way of saying people starve when they don't get enough to eat. It's similarly obvious to most people that kids resemble their parents.

Assuming you're not trolling, why is it that these observations are normal and self-evident when separate, but when combined become so repulsive?

pastorofmuppets - 2009-07-27

(before any of you answer, please note that molecules don't know whether they're participating in micro or macro-evolution, as they cannot read taxonomy books)

Charming - 2009-07-27

hook, line, and sinker

pastorofmuppets - 2009-07-28

I had fun though, that's what counts.
