that ain't no Wendy Carlos

Lurchi - 2009-07-11

no?

B. Weed - 2009-07-11

Yes it is-- but there's also pieces by the London Philharmonic in there, so maybe that's what you were thinking of.

dododge - 2009-07-11

No, it's not.

According to the description over on YouTube, there used to be a version with her music but Carlos had the video taken down. So this one is Carlos-free. There is definitely some Tomita in there instead.

chumbucket - 2009-07-11

no doubt, excerpts of Tomita's Bermuda Triangle

chumbucket - 2009-07-11

nope...The Planets

Lurchi - 2009-07-11

"According to the description over on YouTube"

come on

zatojones - 2009-07-11

btw at the time this was the most fucking awesome thing ever

It's still a visually stunning film and its beauty is preserved by the fact that it can never be successfully reproduced in the same way or with the same associations, rather like Metropolis.

To be fair, the preview footage of Tron 2 from Comic Con was pretty damn amazing. They managed to keep the overall tone and look, while upgrading the visuals with current technology.

FABIO - 2013-02-01

update: Tron 2 was garbage. Terrible script even by Tron standards. They didn't even try to make the characters and sets look like computer simulations. Just lots of people with black spandex with glowsticks glued on.

OxygenThief - 2009-07-11

The rainbow light tunnel must have taken FOREVER.

lieutenant halfabeef - 2009-07-11

CGI? That's cheating. No best special effects Oscar for you, Tron!

Lurchi - 2009-07-11

E.T. won. Blade Runner also came out that year. Star Trek 2 and Poltergeist too. Goddamn did that year imprint itself on me.

athodyd - 2009-07-11

Computer animation as we understand it today did not exist before this movie. They had to invent the predecessors of nearly every tool used in modern CGI.

Jimmy Labatt - 2009-07-11

Absolutely 100% in agreement! For me this is an automatic 5 star + favourite, no questions asked.

Keefu - 2009-07-11

Still gorgeous. I'd like to watch this while on something some day.

Nikon - 2009-07-11

That sounds like a plan.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2009-07-11

Mesmerizing.

I still didn't see the Mickey Mouse shadow in the solar sail scene.

MrBuddy - 2009-07-13

Back in those days computer graphics were used to create amazing visual scenes instead of talking animal movies.

Nikon - 2009-08-28

I miss those days.

The technology was limited and the possibilities were limitless.

Now the technology is limitless and the possibilities are limited.
