Don't be rude, it might hear you.

Smellvin - 2009-06-30

If I'm not mistaken, that's demonius poopus poopus (L.)

Frank Rizzo - 2009-06-30

that has to be fake.

Or else my friend Collin is correct about aliens and the the world ending on 2010.

fucking creepy

Camonk - 2009-06-30

All the cool crazies are latched onto 2012. Tell your friend Colin to get with the fuckin' program.

baleen - 2009-06-30

I want to believe that this is fake and that slime molds have not mysteriously evolved millions of years without anybody noticing.

It could be a newly evolved bryozoan without an exoskeleton?

Cleaner82 - 2009-06-30

This is the best thing I've seen in awhile. If it's fake it's spectacularly realized.

If it's real I am afraid.

Sputum - 2009-06-30

Not all Bryozoan have exoskeletons. It's wicked gross though, ain't it!

fermun - 2009-06-30

There was a Bryozoan in the Denver sewer system a couple years back that this reminded me of.

spikestoyiu - 2009-06-30

Well this is terrifying.

Chizmurder - 2009-06-30

You think there's a connection between this Vigo character and the... slime?

FatFatuousNation - 2009-06-30

I think they are groups of some species of worm. They could also be Bryozoan colonies.

spikestoyiu - 2009-06-30

We get it; you can Google.

afp3683 - 2009-06-30

no, that pipe has obviously grown a reverse anus.

FatFatuousNation - 2009-06-30

I'm sorry, spike. They could also be aliens/monsters.

spikestoyiu - 2009-06-30

I would have also accepted more Ghostbusters 2 jokes.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2009-06-30

Sentient feces.

Our new overlords.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-06-30

I, for one, welcome our new...no..OH NO

OH GOD RUN FOR YOUR LIVES AHHAHHHHHHHHH!!!

JimL2 - 2009-06-30

Seeing as how they only seem to be located in large cracks, I'm guessing it's slime being occasionally sucked/moved by a pressure differential. Still gross, though.

fluffy - 2009-06-30

I was thinking slime mold until it started moving. That twitching doesn't look like a pressure differential - it looks like it's actually pulling itself in. Look at how the tendrils along the sides move.

JimL2 - 2009-07-01

The "pulling itself in" part is exactly what made me think it was being sucked in rather than sucking itself, and losing its grip on the outside wall. Nothing would (and can, since it's so thin) do that. But if Worm Masters say it's a bolus of worms then: ewww. Jesus. Too grossed out to make an Alpha Centauri reference.

James Woods - 2009-06-30

This is fake, right?

ztc - 2009-06-30

I'm never shitting again

takewithfood - 2009-07-01

Good luck with that.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2009-06-30

If this was real someone would be poking it with a stick.

Udderdude - 2009-06-30

Well, there goes my appetite for the next year.

pressed peanut sweepings - 2009-06-30

I really want this to be real.

Also, I really hope this is fake.

Big Beef Burritos Supreme - 2009-06-30

Aliens could land and start punching people in the face, and the entirety of the developed world would think it was viral marketing.

Just saying we're doomed.

chumbucket - 2009-06-30

why panty-liners should not be flushed

teethsalad - 2009-06-30

reminds me of when my brother showed me his hemorrhoids against my will

Pillager - 2009-06-30

For the good of Human Evolution please kill your brother & anything he has sired.

The gene pool thanks you.

thebaronsdoctor - 2009-06-30

I might as well be frank—even if I cannot bear to be quite direct—in stating what we saw; though at the time we felt that it was not to be admitted even to each other. The words reaching the reader can never even suggest the awfulness of the sight itself. It crippled our consciousness so completely that I wonder we had the residual sense to dim our torches as planned, and to strike the right tunnel toward the dead city. Instinct alone must have carried us through—perhaps better than reason could have done; though if that was what saved us, we paid a high price. Of reason we certainly had little enough left...

...We had expected, upon looking back, to see a terrible and incredible moving entity if the mists were thin enough; but of that entity we had formed a clear idea. What we did see—for the mists were indeed all too malignly thinned—was something altogether different, and immeasurably more hideous and detestable. It was the utter, objective embodiment of the fantastic novelist's "thing that should not be"; and its nearest comprehensible analogue is a vast, onrushing subway train as one sees it from a station platform—the great black front looming colossally out of infinite subterranean distance, constellated with strangely colored lights and filling the prodigious burrow as a piston fills a cylinder.
But we were not on a station platform. We were on the track ahead as the nightmare, plastic column of fetid black iridescence oozed tightly onward through its fifteen-foot sinus, gathering unholy speed and driving before it a spiral, rethickening cloud of the pallid abyss vapor. It was a terrible, indescribable thing vaster than any subway train—a shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming as pustules of greenish light all over the tunnel-filling front that bore down upon us, crushing the frantic penguins and slithering over the glistening floor that it and its kind had swept so evilly free of all litter. Still came that eldritch, mocking cry- "Tekeli-li! Tekeli-li!" and at last we remembered that the demoniac Shoggoths—given life, thought, and plastic organ patterns solely by the Old Ones, and having no language save that which the dot groups expressed—had likewise no voice save the imitated accents of their bygone masters.

blackmetallic - 2009-06-30

This. I am smiley right now.

Creeps - 2009-06-30

The very thing I thought of.

StanleyPain - 2009-06-30

So what video game/movie/TV is this a viral ad for?

pressed peanut sweepings - 2009-06-30

It kind of looks like that 'growth' taking over Mars City in Doom 3.

Joey The Cobra - 2009-06-30

It looks exactly like the stuff that takes over buildings in Prototype.

Yeah, being a sewer inspector in Silent Hill really sucks.

Gojira1000 - 2009-06-30

Tubifex Tubifex, specifically. But I can hope for a shoggoth. 4 stars for sheer grossness.

allcaps - 2009-06-30

Ah nuts, I think you're right. Well, back to the boring old horror of nature, then.

Cheese - 2009-06-30

How many hit points do you think it has? Any special attacks?

Cheese - 2009-06-30

pulled

fatatty - 2009-06-30

And so the plot thickens...

Pillager - 2009-06-30

Placentas?

teethsalad - 2009-06-30

watched again, the last one has some sort of needle appendage it keeps jutting out from the top right

creepy

allcaps - 2009-06-30

Yeah, I see it now, but I'm wondering if in fact it's being pushed in from behind, and is in fact the thing moving it.

Cheese - 2009-06-30

www.deepseanews.com/2009/06/creatures-from-the-sewer/

It's a pile of worms.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2009-06-30

Not a series of tubes?

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-06-30

From Dr. Timothy S. Wood, worm guy expert:

"Thanks for the video – I had not see it before. No, these are not bryozoans! They are clumps of annelid worms, almost certainly tubificids (Naididae, probably genus Tubifex). Normally these occur in soil and sediment, especially at the bottom and edges of polluted streams. In the photo they have apparently entered a pipeline somehow, and in the absence of soil they are coiling around each other. The contractions you see are the result of a single worm contracting and then stimulating all the others to do the same almost simultaneously, so it looks like a single big muscle contracting. Interesting video."

I would still run for my life...

Syd Midnight - 2009-07-01

That's how a heart beats. If they moved individually it would fibrillate, but by coordinating they can move like a muscle. That makes it so much worse. They're evolving.

The fact that they sent a robot probe down instead of a brown-arm with a camera suggests they were expecting something like this. Perhaps there were incidents.

Cleaner82 - 2009-08-30

I wouldn't have thought it was possible -- but I feel much better, deep down in my soul, knowing what these are.

Blaise - 2009-06-30

Great, my +2 plate mail just corroded.

bopeton - 2009-06-30

Yet another argument for civilian ownership of flamethrowers.

Lauritz Melchior - 2009-08-24

AAAAUUUUGGGHHHHH!!!!!

Big Muddy - 2009-09-02

This is what finished off the crew of The Bebop basically.

That is so wrecked. guhuhug!

Also that one episode of X-Files.

McGillistabby - 2010-02-10

POKE IT. WHY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD IS NO ONE POKING IT?!

Pacobird - 2010-06-04

Paging SHODAN.

Waugh - 2014-06-30

she won't save you

Squeamish - 2011-03-17

Now, just imagine finding one floating around your toilet bowl, slowly pulsating and trying to gain purchase on the ceramic sides, only to slide down and leave some horrible red streaks against the side.

You'd never trust your toilet again.
