The Ugly Swans
Visitor of the Museum
Dead Man Letters

All scary, dark, creepy, poetic and dystopian visions of the future.

this movie is great, i second the recommendation for the ugly swans as well, and while technically not post-apocalyptic, Stalker also has the same sort of feeling to it.

Yeah Stalker is more of an ecological devastation\philosophical journey pic, and it miraculously presaged Chernobyl by a year. People even called Chernobyl the Zone without even drawing a parallel to Tarkovsky's film.

Another good one is the The End Of Civilization by Piotr Szulkin, though it doesn't have the depth and beauty of Lopushansky. The Slavs seemed to struggle with post-apocalyptic visions far more seriously than we did, and contributed a much wider body of work to the genre.

And when we did try our hand at it, it was usually a little tongue in cheek or downright campy. All that consumer culture did a good job of keeping us optimistic, I guess.

awesome work...guess what America? Russians were just as freaked out and terrified by the thought of nuclear annihilation as you were! Thanks Chernobyl.

okay go to hell

i can understand appreciating foreign cinema, but for fuck's sake at least have subtitles.

i'm not about to go darting back and forth with phonetic approximations of a little kid's whisperings to fucked up stock footage for five minutes. fuck this unsubbed bullshit.

yer dumb.

I won't go so far as to give it one star but this clip is pretty damn confusing. It's pretty much pure black in most of the shots and nothing seems to be happening other than general dystopia.

I'm sure in context and with footage I can actually see, this is a beautiful movie. As a clip, I'm bored and confused.

I wish I had better clips of his stuff. Not much out there.
Anyway, watch his movies.

Can't see shit, Captain.

Ah, I get it. Black.

Do I have to watch this as a precursor to Doom 3?

Some lovely framing and unsettling images... but, yes, I need to see this in 'context', as it were.
