The person playing the heavy made the same noises that the heavy makes while eating a sandwich, after shouting "Fire".

In short, he publicly announced that he took damage, and then faked the spy into thinking that he was taking some time out to heal by eating the sandwich. The opportunistic spy ran in to take advantage of the downtime and stab him. He then got shot in the face.

This is the eqivielnt of firing a few shots, and then shoting "Click click" to trick someone into thinking you are out of bullets, then shooting them when they pop out of cover to blow your head off. (It was a far side comic, i recall.)

I would explain the joke to them, but it would pretty much ruin it.

I think TF2 is the Starcraft of the most jaded and cynical nerds who like to make fun of other nerds and well anyone really. Gamers who like to run around blowing people up, less mindlessly than Quake, with a smile on their face mic spamming YTMND quotes and the Final Countdown.

As opposed to nerds who like to spend thousands of hours perfecting their technique at resource farming and take their hobby way too seriously.

Also TF2 is the only game where you'll see someone say "Nom Nom Nom" into their mic and win a match because of it.
