I'm with socialist_hentai on this one. Still it reminds me of something a tour guide said when I went to an old, historic, trading post in the western USA. The Europeans were trading strings of red and blue beads to the natives for beaver pelts which the Europeans would make into hats. In other words, useless status symbols for useless status symbols that both sides desperately wanted.
