Okay, so Cena_Mark excepted, probably nobody on poetv likes this clown... But does anyone know someone who does? I honestly haven't met anyone who likes Glenn Beck.

jangbones - 2009-02-22

I work with a lot of Republicans, I guarantee I know someone who does, but I doubt they would admit it.

Louis Armstrong - 2009-02-22

My step father bought my mom one of his books as a christmas present. He said she would like it(even though it was abundantly clear that he was the buying a gift for himself, ala Homer the bowling ball and Marge Simpson). He isn't the type to go Hurf Durf MIlitia TYME!, but most of his politics are spoon fed to him via conservative talk radio, so I guess it appeals.

Still, despite this hang up hes a good man.

ProfessorChaos - 2009-02-22

One of my best friends follows Beck pretty obsessively. Listens to both the radio show, and the tv show, whenever they are on. I've learned to tune him out, whenever he gets running on conservative tangents...

jangbones - 2009-02-23

You should watch this clip again and reconsider that friendship.

Seriously, the amazing punditry on FOX is disconnected from the truth but this is a whole other layer of magnitude free from any vestigal connection to reality.

People who respect Rush Limbaugh are fools, but people who can take any part of this seriously are disturbed.

minimalist - 2009-02-23

There is a pair of Indian brothers who run a good local liquor store for a mostly rednecky clientele. Seemingly every time we're there, the radio seems to be tuned to Glenn Beck ranting about th'Mexicans and whatnot. All this, as we have pleasant friendly conversations about good microbrews and single-malt scotch.

They are connoisseurs and delightful people. I do not know if they listen to Beck ironically, or if they think their usual customer base wants to hear it, or if they truly want to.

chumbucket - 2009-02-23

I actually liked listening to Beck when he was just radio. But clearly, since TV and now more-so since Fox, the guy has shifted into full idiocy mode. This whole "disenfranchised with the govt" thing is hogwash...then tell me why nothing happened in the last year of the Bush admin? What did he finally get down to?..30% approval? No civil war then!

His leaning on this "Bubba Effect" as sparking a full-blown anarchy is ludicrous since these guys are so fringe and stupid they couldn't organize such a major effort. Plus I'm betting since Patriot Act, the FBI, NSA and such are all over these bozos.

jangbones - 2009-02-23

Curious, what was Beck's radio show like before he went off the deep end?

chumbucket - 2009-02-23

His radio gig did have some conservative ranting from time to time but I liked how on Friday's he'd have idiots call in to some trivia competition where they could barely get the easiest questions right...that was fun to listen to. He also had these bumper songs between breaks that were riffs on real tunes but the words were nothing but "Glenn Beck" or something. mostly a goofball show..with some of his crying fits mixed in as expected

There's a really good Glenn Greenwald post about this:

2:24 We're facing a tyranny of incompetence? I thought we just got rid of that.

I love that they think the majority of Americans are ready to go to war against our own government to protect the constitution. You know, since "it's just a goddamned piece of paper."

CharlesSmith - 2009-02-22

Oh wow, the former head of the CIA Bin Laden Unit. Well I guess he's due right?

zatojones - 2009-02-22

Yeah I had the same thought. "The guy who worked the Bin Laden desk" does not look good on a resume right now

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-02-23

Also, his beard makes it look like his jaw is grossly misaligned.

Dan Druff - 2009-02-23

The disclaimer at the start. Oh god, the hilarity.

Not to mention the absurd overuse of "radiation" warning symbols sprinkled throughout.

simon666 - 2009-02-23

"None of this is true, but we're going to talk about it as if it is a very real possibility so potentially millions of people think it is."

mcsancherson - 2009-02-23

the bubbas are coming THE BUBBAS ARE COMING

Tstyle - 2009-02-23

Aren't the Bubbas his base?

mcsancherson - 2009-02-23

i'd really love to see glenn beck dead or just ruined by his inevitable drug/gay prostitute scandal, but in the meantime the most damaging thing anyone could possible do to him and his ilk is just save all of the bullshit they're spewing now for posterity

what a ridiculous man

Secret Messiah - 2009-02-23

I love that these talking heads almost welcome the idea of a revolt in this day and age because it would prove them right.

A revolt in 18 century France was extremely violent. Do we really want to think about a revolt when everyone and their dog has 3 shotguns under their bed?

Contributing to the above discussion, I have a friend who recently stated that Glenn Beck is a great guy and a "helluva pundit". Of course, this person has also stated, unironically, that Limbaugh should be considered for a nobel peace prize. I don't have a goddamn clue about that one either.

zatojones - 2009-02-23

the people who enjoy thinking too much about the apocalypse are the ones who are convinced that not only will they survive such a thing but they'll be kings among men afterwards

FABIO - 2009-02-23

I wonder if any of these people wonder how the last revolt of armed militias against the federal government went.

I can't watch Glenn Beck though, could someone summarize?

minimalist - 2009-02-23

The only advantage I can see them having in an apocalypse is lasting slightly longer through famine

kingarthur - 2009-02-23

The level of asshattery from this man alone could power THE SUN.

Senator_Unger - 2009-02-23

Taxes for the highest income earners were at 90% all throughout World War II and into the 1960's and yet that's the "Golden Era" conservatives want to return to.
