It makes me so happy that McCain is not currently winning over moderates and that Palin is motivating as many leftie base voters as she is the rightwing base.

Swear to God this is true:

After watching hours of post-debate analysis, I didn't hear a single anchor, conservative or liberal, who praised her without using the words "appealing", "attractive" or "exceeded expectations". Most of the time, those were the only words they used. Note that none have anything at all to do with qualifications.

I'm reserving the stars because I just can't stand Bill Maher.

Even at times when I like him, I still can't laugh at Bill Maher's jokes.

But you know, neither can the audience.

TinManic - 2008-10-05

but... you could hear the audience laugh...

It's difficult for me to watch Bill Maher because I have already mentally established him as the moderate Bill O'Reilly.

He's a comedian... Not a great one, but a comedian. It's the notion that he actually believes everything he says that I find disheartening.

I actually find it heartening that someone will actually say what they believe and not try to talk around the beliefs they hold that are known to be controversial.

Basically, what I should have said is:
His positions on issues do not seem to be anymore thought out from how they are presented in his comedic bits, which is to say that his comedy presents a world-view that (although he holds a good number of positions that could be considered "progressive") could institute, and is (assuming people do take him completely seriously) in the process of instituting, this Bill Maherish tastelessness--beneath what he presents, I see him as unfortunately anti-intellectual. This I find disheartening. My familiarity with his whole range of views, etc. is limited, but not unfounded.

This was actually really good as far as Bill Maher standup goes. So he's not Chris Rock, but I hes has his moments.

Maher's show is awesome for the panel discussions. He is very funny in these without prepared material.

Dude, don't laugh at your own jokes. God's sake, you're on TV.

Oh Bill, I could never hate you with your psychotic clown voice.

You should have been an insane super villain.
