There is nothing that Hollywood can't change beyond all recognition.

zatojones - 2008-10-03

Here is an example of Hollywood transmuting crap into poop

Camonk - 2008-10-03

I was hoping that changing Dragonballz beyond all recognition might have ended up with something watchable.

Well, I mean, at least it's suddenly not horribly jerky anime. Oh I still wouldn't watch it unless being paid at least a hundred bucks.

waxeater - 2008-10-03

With the economy the way it is. I'll watch it for .

Also, who is the chick with the tits? I'm a fan.

chumbucket - 2008-10-03

oh, she came with tits? I hadn't noticed

takewithfood - 2008-10-03

I'm so worried that this will ruin Stephen Chow.

themilkshark - 2008-10-03

The hardcore fanbase was defending this up and down for the past few months... They're strangely quiet now.

dichotic1 - 2008-10-03

HIS POWER LEVEL IS OVER 9000 (penises).

Hugo Gorilla - 2008-10-03

I guess the movie won't have the shape-shifting pig with the panties fixation then, huh?

The Great Hippo - 2008-10-03

Wow.

Hollywood has ceased to be a parody of itself, and has now started becoming a parody of that parody. Way to go post-modern, Hollywood.

Oh, and FUCK YOU.

Mostly Pi - 2008-10-03

no, they'll be in the audience

NoCode - 2008-10-03

Best use ever of the IT STINKS! tag. Also, I know it's stating the obvious but Piccolo is the least-threatening name for a bad guy ever.

kingarthur - 2008-10-03

Piccolo is a bad guy? I think I made it through five minutes of this show once.

Quad9Damage - 2008-10-03

Toriyama liked orienting groups of bad guys with objects and things. Piccolo is named Piccolo because when he is first introduced in the manga, the names of his allies are Drum, Cymbal, and Piano.

I feel sad knowing this.

Quad9Damage - 2008-10-03

And to further degrade myself, Piccolo was originally a bad guy before Gohan and Goku's softness affected him.

I've read a lot of the books, OK? Damn.

Hooper_X - 2008-10-03

Five stars for OH NO FUCKING WAY. Like, as much as people bitched and moaned about the Transformer movie, at least it was generally recognizable as "giant space robots that turn into cars and shit."

Boxhead - 2008-10-03

This is neither cool enough or evil enough to justify stars, so I abstain.

It does however seem to extend Hollywood's amazing ability to take an Intellectual Property and completely remove everything from it that made it what it was. See: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

I think I've seen 10 episodes of Dragonball and can tell from this trailer that they've probably dropped the entire science-fiction aspect from the premise.. I assume the giant ape aspect will be removed. Seems like they've turned it into a typical Magical Kung-Fu movie.

Rovin - 2008-10-03

More like Mortal Kombat 2008.

StanleyPain - 2008-10-03

LXG is a bad example, though. The chief problem with that movie right from the beginning is that they couldn't obtain the rights to use a significant number of characters from the comic and from there it was just one big disaster.

Samisyosam - 2008-10-03

That's strange. I didn't see anybody grunting or making their hair turn yellow. Looks like a modern american kung fu movie already under production that the producers modified to have a subplot about a collection of glowing yellow balls. I'm probably never going to watch it. Though to be honest, I never would have watched it if it had been remotely faithful to the series anyway. That show was the worst thing to happen to daytime tv when I was a kid.

Harveyjames - 2008-10-04

no, they'll be in the audience

Hooker - 2008-10-03

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

*ahem*

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahaha.

I will see this on opening night.

Mike Tyson?! - 2008-10-03

Thanks for supporting Hollywood making bad movies.

Hooker - 2008-10-03

Garbage day is one of the highest rated clips on poeTV.

kingarthur - 2008-10-03

Ooooo sick burn!

Keefu - 2008-10-03

This is going to be awfully awesome and probably a failure. The target audience for this movie (kids who watched toonami years ago) have all mostly grown up and moved on to other things.

Oh, Hollywood, sigh.

Keefu - 2008-10-03

A large amount of Dragonball was shot in an abandoned jeans factory, also located in Durango, Mexico.

BillFisto - 2008-10-03

Dear god, I hope that works into the plot somehow.

fpeeingg - 2008-10-03

Yes!!! Check out the high octane parking lot action at 0:28

Geoff Marr - 2008-10-03

Goku looks like an idiot, Piccolo looks like a sith lord, there's a Mortal Kombat character at the end, no one is flying. I could go on about how shitty this movie looks all day.

Also, is Yamcha holding a waterbottle for his pose?

Flux - 2008-10-03

The only fascinating thing about this trailer for me is how I am trying to figure out whether it's racism or sexism that only girls are allowed to be asian or asians are only allowed to be girls.

BillFisto - 2008-10-03

Wait, so what is Chow Yun Fat?

Flux - 2008-10-03

old
they let asian dudes leave the leper cave once they turn 40

DMKA - 2008-10-03

What about the guy playing Yamcha and the guy playing Roshii?

Durr hurr.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-10-03

Oh, my God. I thought they stopped making movies like this years ago.

This is going to be great!

ProfessorChaos - 2008-10-03

Damnit. It's down already?

gambol - 2008-10-03

Withholding judgment until we can actually see it.

DMKA - 2008-10-03

I just can't imagine how the action scenes are going to be if they bare any resemblance at all to the source material. If so, I can't wait to see Chatwin shoot out a kamehamehameha.

Also, where the hell is Krillin?

DMKA - 2008-10-03

And for that matter, who's Mai?

dementomstie - 2008-10-03

Yeah it's still down, but I saw a trailer on YouTube when I searched Dragonball Trailer. Is that really it? That looks nothing like Dragonball. That barely resembles the legend of the Monkey King. What's with the guy in the cave with the water? Seriously, I'm lost on that.
Also wasn't Dragonball a comedy at heart? Is this going to involve the Red Ribbon Army at all? Will we see Hitler shoot rainbow shells in Live Action? I'd pay to see that in a movie theater. I just don't know what to rate it, so I'll hold off for now and just be overly chatty.

joffe b - 2008-10-04

I don't have any fondness for Dragonball, and this doesn't even seem all that interesting from a train wreck standpoint, but why bother doing a knockoff of a knockoff of Journey to the West if you're not going to include a lecherous, shapeshifting pig-man?

kwash - 2010-03-22

I own this.

It's incredible.
