Sort of like a shotgun that shoots classical art.

fluffy - 2008-08-29

Makes me think of Homer Simpson's makeup gun

Squeamish - 2008-08-29

I want a shot gun that shoots classical art.

I would be the most dangerous man alive.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-09-15

Sure, you can have a shotgun that shoots classical art, you can even build it out of meat or glass.

I love Dwarf Fortress.

StanleyPain - 2008-08-29

So...what Myth were they busting?

takewithfood - 2008-08-29

The myth that they don't do anything but bust myths?

fluffy - 2008-08-29

I believe they were paid by nVidia to demonstrate the difference between CPU and GPU rendering, albeit in a way that's in no way applicable.

RockBolt - 2008-08-29

But its not boring!

Camonk - 2008-08-29

The myth that they didn't blow their entire wad in their first season?

Still, this was cool.

Syd Midnight - 2008-08-31

It's worth remembering that prior to the show, they were best known for building kill-machines that were judged too deadly for Battlebots pit fights.

chumbucket - 2008-08-29

one hit wonder

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2008-08-29

She has a receding hairline.

afp3683 - 2008-08-30

(and no eyebrows)

(and davinci's face)

Goethe and ernie - 2008-08-29

I was nonplussed until the slow-mo replay, at which point I became decidedly animated.

SpookyElectric - 2008-08-29

it's a myth that "nonplussed" means unimpressed.

Goethe and ernie - 2008-08-29

It's a myth that actually knowing what "nonplussed" means and using it in that context in the first place makes you a huge virgin.

No, seriously. For real. Honestly.

Bootymarch - 2010-11-19

You're an idiot.

zatojones - 2008-08-29

these guys have the coolest job ever

Ageusiatic - 2008-08-29

Every time I see a massive amount of technology used for a completely frivolous purpose, it warms my heart.

commandocucumber - 2008-10-03

have you seen the cnc coffee machine?

mouser - 2008-08-29

Would have been nice for the first canon to actually paint that rather than a one-shot blast.

Cool nonetheless.

APE_GOD - 2010-01-21

That was the point of the demonstration.

dementomstie - 2008-08-29

I love the Mythbusters. I wish the person who edited this would have let them explain what GPU stands for though. But since that probably would have doubled the time of the clip, I'm OK without it too.

fluffy - 2008-08-29

CPU = central processing unit
GPU = graphics processing unit

A GPU is just a processor that's optimized for graphics stuff. It's what drives your graphics card.

Cube - 2008-08-29

I thought this clip was all about explaining the difference between a CPU and a GPU.

ProfessorChaos - 2008-08-29

+25 for the slo-mo segment

Chalkdust - 2008-08-29

So when I'm playing TF2, my computer is shooting millions of little paintballs at the inside of my monitor?

Technology is truly amazing!

Doctor Arcane - 2008-08-29

I'm going to be the douchebag here and say.. wtf

1. this in no way accurately depics CPU rendering versus GPU
2. since when is software rendering even a competitor? wouldn't it make more sense to market against ATI?

VoilaIntruder - 2008-08-29

Indeed. Perhaps if the robot arm had a large "ATI" logo emblazoned on it, and during the shooting of the smiley face fell limply to the ground and urinated itself. Totally a missed opportunity.

dead_cat - 2008-08-30

I know this, and I'm still bowled over by the awesome of the slo-mo. Dammit, why couldn't they put that supergun through its paces for us? I wanna see this thing painting pictures and writing documents one paintball at a time.

Mister Yuck - 2009-02-16

For question number 2:

Intel is making a push for high-quality graphics integrated on to the CPU, possibly getting a dedicated core for the function. For this purpose, they are doing research and evangelizing rendering methods (that I don't understand) which (for reasons I don't understand) do better on CPU style chips than the GPU designs Nvidia has been perfecting for a decade. Nvidia is a bit worried.

lustygoat - 2009-05-15

what the hell would you prefer, a powerpoint presentation?

hornung - 2008-08-29

IF I HAD THAT AND MY SHOT MY BUDDY DANNY I BET THAT FUCKER WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO WIPE, THEN WE'D SEE WHO'D WIN NORMANDY YOU SON OF A BITCH.

heyitslozeau - 2008-08-30

they do live shows.

davinciclone - 2008-09-03

It's a warmup for when the show tanks and they're doing three shows live nightly at the Mirage (four on Sundays!)

Syd Midnight - 2008-09-15

I'd almost look forward to that, since they are quite capable of building insanely dangerous death machines. They are 2 failed careers and 3 drug habits away from arranging rhinoceros vs BattleBot pit fights.

keinsignal - 2008-09-08

Now *that's* art.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-06-13

5 for the slow-motion.
