I love the Mythbusters. I wish the person who edited this would have let them explain what GPU stands for though. But since that probably would have doubled the time of the clip, I'm OK without it too.
1. this in no way accurately depics CPU rendering versus GPU
2. since when is software rendering even a competitor? wouldn't it make more sense to market against ATI?
Indeed. Perhaps if the robot arm had a large "ATI" logo emblazoned on it, and during the shooting of the smiley face fell limply to the ground and urinated itself. Totally a missed opportunity.
I know this, and I'm still bowled over by the awesome of the slo-mo. Dammit, why couldn't they put that supergun through its paces for us? I wanna see this thing painting pictures and writing documents one paintball at a time.
Intel is making a push for high-quality graphics integrated on to the CPU, possibly getting a dedicated core for the function. For this purpose, they are doing research and evangelizing rendering methods (that I don't understand) which (for reasons I don't understand) do better on CPU style chips than the GPU designs Nvidia has been perfecting for a decade. Nvidia is a bit worried.
I'd almost look forward to that, since they are quite capable of building insanely dangerous death machines. They are 2 failed careers and 3 drug habits away from arranging rhinoceros vs BattleBot pit fights.
