Lord, the first third looks like the Daikatana demo from when they were still using the original Quake engine.

Tyrathca - 2008-07-24

+1 for "over 1000 players."

Rovin - 2008-07-24

Rat hunter 3D!

baleen - 2008-07-24

Wow, remember when MMMMRzOPRGS were like, SMALLER AND UGLIER.

Udderdude - 2008-07-24

Sneaking into a motherfucking IGLOO.

Zhou Fang - 2008-07-24

A virtual world filled with Eskimos and espionage.

freedoom - 2008-07-24

I tried the original everquest when it was still somewhat new. I killed a couple rats, got lost in a sewer and gave up.

Lurchi - 2008-07-24

Me too. I played for half an hour then never again.

FABIO2 - 2008-07-24

Wasn't 989 the guys who ruined Twisted Metal?

buttnutt - 2008-07-24

yes

kiint - 2008-07-24

everquest 1999 = Second Life 2008

SolRo - 2008-07-24

They were no furries, well, not till the 4th expansion at least.

Though in defense, most people consider the game went to shit with that expansion, so the furries are to blame?

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-07-24

I've got balls of steel.

Twitch - 2008-07-24

It's like they somehow re-created the real world using computers. I can't tell this from regular reality. Go SNES!

Moustache McGillicuddy - 2008-07-24

coming in january 1999! I cant wait

Cap'n Profan!ty - 2008-07-24

I cannot get over how everything from 1999 looks the way that C64 games looked to me in 1999. Will TF2 look just as bad in 2017?

SolRo - 2008-07-24

yeah, it will look cartoonish and silly compared to the photorealistic images beamed directly into our neural shunt.

Udderdude - 2008-07-24

There were way better looking games released in 1999 .. like Quake 3.

SolRo - 2008-07-24

the difference being that quake 3 didnt have to have 60+ players on screen at the same time, and catered to hardcore players with good gaming rigs.

Everquest, like WoW now, targeted the general audience (PC equipment wise)

SolRo - 2008-07-24

that, and this is a horrid video showing the very worst graphics and no close-up detail.

glasseye - 2008-07-24

Ahh memories... so much wasted time.

Magical Man from Happy-Land - 2008-07-24

Holy christ what a hideous game. How the fuck did it ever get so popular

Robin Kestrel - 2008-07-24

Heh, I was in the EQ beta. For the first ten months of the game, all the characters had their arms permanently bent unnaturally like that. Then, in October 1999 came the awesome patch WHERE YOUR ARMS BENT AT THE ELBOWS and went into a resting position at your sides. Nowadays your game had better be released with at least 100 different animated emotes that look different depending on character race and gender. GET OFF MY LAWN.

thebaronsdoctor - 2008-07-24

Did they use windows movie maker to make this commercial or what?

Alektorophobic - 2008-07-25

I miss 1999, when Quake still had a large following and every new game had mind-blowing graphics. Now, everybody's jaded by today's photo-realism. Back in 1999, we would have all been watching this commercial over and over and telling our friends how we couldn't wait to play it.

Pie Boy - 2008-07-28

"Immerse yourself into"

come on.

come on.

rroach - 2009-03-02

Blocky graphics aside, fun fun fun fun fun fun fun fun game. You can't tell me being a dark elf necromancer didn't make you tingle in your naughty bits.
