Honestly, I love this show, but this clip is really only going to please people who already like it.

It is a pretty gay show except for all the tits.

The gayest part of the show is the actual gay character. Who is fabulously gay. Which is great, and that makes it not gay. Because he's so gay.

Wait, let me start over.

Forget the anime--of course it's gay; only like two animes aren't gay--and focus on the description. This is easily the gayest description I've ever seen.

It's a ridiculous pastiche/send-up by the people at Gainax of all of the sorts of robot and action anime they would have watched as children. All and any possible cliches have been taken and exaggerated to their fullest, i.e. big robots, busty women, etc. At the end of the series, there's a robot the size of the galaxy.

It's fun. If you can accept as it is, its pretty entertaining in all its ridiculousness. Or hey, maybe it ain't your thing, which is understandable.

Basically, humans have been living underground for hundreds of years, because when they go to the surface, they're all killed. A few of them decided to leave their underground homes for the surface. On their first day out, they run into this character who's one of the generals ordered to suppress/kill all humans.

The themes of the show are courage, brotherhood, heroism, freedom, perseverance and giant robots. For what it is, the show pulls it off nigh perfectly.

Also, don't kiss the chick with red hair. This is very important.

Red heads are unfairly represented in this anime.

Unlike these beards above, I will explain what I have gathered from 10 episodes on The YouTube:

It is GAINAX's typical "Boy Growing Up" story, which has been a staple since Neon Genesis Evangelion; FLCL mainstreamed the whole Adolescence Genre, but GAINAX has perfected their crazy Kid W/ Robot schtick with this newest one.

When this hits American DVDs even having seen it, I'd still plug it as A Hella Good Anime, or at the very least Something Worth Checkin' Out.

Also: DRILLS!!

Also, this clip is pretty out of place with the cartoon, since nearly all of the battles are between robots, with the interspersal of plot to keep the story going.



Dear GAINAX:

Just make a 12 hour long clip of a non-stop Robot Royal Rumble, with your usual style.

It changes a lot past episode 15 or so, it's a really complete story arc, which is why you need to watch all of it

It didn't feel so beardy when I wrote all of that, though I must admit it is pretty long winded in retrospect?!?! Maybe I was tired that night. OH WELL.
