If they had made this movie without trying to shoehorn the Mario Bros. franchise into it, it would've been hailed as a piece of artistic genius.

William Burns - 2008-06-16

If watched in tandem with Naked Lunch or some Lynch movies, it makes a lot more sense. Also weed.

Godard's Drinking Problem - 2008-06-16

PABST BLUE RIBBON!!!

"fever dream come to life"

oops

robotkarateman - 2008-06-16

From this to "The Happening", Leguizamo's career has really made headway.

FABIO2 - 2008-06-16

I miss Bob Hoskins =(

Hooker - 2008-06-16

Man, I loved this movie as a kid. I'm afraid to watch it as a bigger kid.

Hooker - 2008-06-16

Specifically, I remember thinking Mario had fallen into a Streets of Fire-ish nightmare world that had no bearing on the world Mario comes from, and the movie seemed to support this. There was a serious incompatability between Mario and Luigi's cartoonish presence and everything else going on.

Frostilicus - 2008-06-16

I know, man. It just doesn't jive with the mario canon

I was too old to appreciate it but in hindsight I admire their attempt to cross the Mario universe with Blade Runner.

Hooker - 2008-06-16

I think I was like 11 or something, so I probably should have been to old to appreciate it. I was a pretty stupid kid.

King of Balls - 2008-06-16

Ohhhhh, Streets of Fire. I'm going to submit the trailer for that film post-haste.

fluffy - 2008-06-16

THIS AIN'T NO GAME

Chalkdust - 2008-06-16

This movie is a mind-boggling symphony of mistakes.

dead_cat - 2008-06-16

Oh god I remember this.

positively - 2008-06-16

I GOT THE POWAH

cognitivedissonance - 2008-06-16

You got to hand it to them, though. They could've just dubbed the already existing Super Mario Brothers anime into English and made millions. Instead, they decided to climb that mountain. CLIMB IT BECAUSE IT WAS THERE.

Cena_mark - 2008-06-16

I love this film. I wish Mario still talked in a gruff Brooklyn voice like Bob Hoskins did, because I hate that squeaky "itsameeeeee marioooooooooooooo" voice.

Keefu - 2008-06-16

This film is so amazing. At one point Mario and a bunch of NYC girls ride a mattress down an ice tube accompanied by rock and roll music while being chased by dinosaurs in coats with comically undersized heads.

Mother Lumper - 2008-06-16

That mattress scene was the only thing I really remember about the movie, and I'm pretty sure the girls were hookers.

boner - 2008-06-16

I'm surprised there was not a Super Mario Bros: The Movie: The Game.

zatojones - 2008-06-16

If the movie had been successful someone would have made a musical theater version which would then have been made into a movie.

Xenocide - 2008-06-16

There was, but it was cancelled at the last minute. Though too late to prevent the release of Super Mario Bros: The Movie: The Game: The Soundtrack: The Novelization: The Comic Book Adaption.

uekibachi - 2008-06-16

i loved big bertha in this movie. she was so big and sassy.

snothouse - 2008-06-16

TRIVIA: Big Bertha was supposed to represent the fish enemy. That's right, the big red fish that tried to swallow Mario.

Princess v2.1 - 2008-06-16

This trailer almost makes it look good

revdrew - 2008-06-16

SO MUCH COKE.
