DO YOU SEE?!

love this movie

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-06-14

"We won't need eyes where we're going."

"Liberate tu ex infernus"

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-06-14

Also? : This is what happens when you try and rip a portal in the very fabric of space and time itself.

Go to Hell. Do not pass Go. Do not collect 0.

Jimmy Labatt - 2008-06-14

Lawrence (don't call him Larry) Fishburne's gayest role yet; how one goes from Appocalypse Now to this shit is anyone's guess. Still, I liked the "former crew tape scene" so that earns a three

FABIO2 - 2008-06-14

This is FAR from Fishburne's worst role.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-06-14

Please do not remind me of the former crew tape scene. Please do not. I may be forced to buy the DVD and hurl chunks all over. AGAIN.

Jimmy Labatt - 2008-06-14

OK Eve Of Destruction then.

You win this round Fabio...

RandomFerret - 2008-06-14

Dude, SPHERE. It was the exact same movie, but worse.

kingarthur - 2008-06-14

Wait a minute! Eve of Destruction had Gregory Hines and Sphere had Samuel Jacks--ohhhh! I see what you did there.

Anyway, I love this movie. The scene where Kathleen Quinlan is killed hits you upside the head and the movie just rolls from there.

FABIO2 - 2008-06-14

If this trailer was made today, it would go through the entire movie point by point, translate the transmission, show you the log, and explain what happens in the last 10 minutes.

Jimmy Labatt - 2008-06-14

Also it would hack the Gibson

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-06-14

It would also use a Tesla coil for an amp.

But FABIO2 has a point with the criticism of trailers nowadays. Trailers are what make movies somewhat watchable / unwatchable.

Does Nicky Cage in the Wicker Man out of context count as a trailer?

glasseye - 2008-06-14

Guh, this movie scared the shit out of me back when it came out.

Merzbau - 2008-06-14

I like this movie way, WAY more than it deserves.

Jeriko-1 - 2008-06-14

*BAM!!! NO-EYED GHOUL EXTREME CLOSE UP!!!*

I think the Dr.'s nightmare was the only scene to make me jump in years.

BE WITH ME. NOW.

Jeff Fries - 2008-06-14

Maybe if the gate to your interdimensional gateway weren't a pair of rotating spike bands you wouldn't run into GWAR on the way through.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-06-14

Glad I'm not the only one who accidentally uses redundant words in his casual everyday sentences.

13.5 - 2008-06-14

Sam Neill is such a trooper

Louddetective - 2017-10-31

I'm physically unable to refer to him as anything other than "The great Sam Neill"

Shion - 2008-06-14

I loved this movie. I loved it enough to go through with the pause button and watch all the scenes of the previous crew that flashed by really fast.

That was a poor idea on my part at the time.

kingarthur - 2008-06-14

Brought to us by the people that gave us the first Resident Evil movie, the first Mortal Kombat movie, Kurt Russel in Soldier, Firestarter 2, and Aliens Versus Predator.

Sooo, this may have been the career highlight. Everyone's got at least one hit in 'em.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-06-14

A bloody spike through the base of the spine, penetrating all the way out the mouth.

This is all I can think of now.

FABIO2 - 2008-06-14

Yeah I was shocked that Paul W. "Resident" S. "Evil" Anderson directed this.

Shion - 2008-06-14

Hey, I liked the first Resident Evil too.

You guys are elitists.

lzrd: There's also the good one of someone reaching down a companion's throat and pulling their intestines out. That one stuck with me a while.

Godard's Drinking Problem - 2008-10-30

Event Horizon is the Anderson anomaly. Death Race is the Paul W.S. reality.

StanleyPain - 2008-06-14

Wow...I am honestly and truly amazed at all the Event Horizon love around here. I have never met anyone other than myself who actually anjoyed the movie. I didn't think it was a masterpiece or anything, but I thought it was decent and I'm also a sucker for movies with great production design and cinematography.
Interesting trivia, though: I remember reading articles about the production before it came out and I clearly recall the film's story being about some kind of demon from the middle ages having taken possession of the ship, or something like that. Which lends credence to all the stories about how the movie was radically changed and cut in production.

Jimmy Labatt - 2008-06-14

You know what Stanley, you're right. I think I might have been a bit too harsh with my initial judgement (fingers crossed that Chet will add a feature that allows us to change our ratings).

I remember going to the matinée of this on a Lazy Sunday afternoon, thinking that it was going to be a piece of crap. It was 35 degrees Celcius outside and yet, when I left the theatre I was chilled to the bone. Barring the trite dialogue, the airlock sequence and Zombie Sam Neil magically appearing at the end, this was a pretty damn decent slice of scifi.

eatenmyeyes - 2008-06-14

Death Ship, the Ship that Eats People

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-06-14

Oh damn Stanley, never forget there are other people who love the same shit you do. Big horror-scifi high-fives all around.

Also this bit of trivia actually drops the movie somewhat in my eyes now. I'm starting to get a thinkin', all like, "Well, what if they had thrown in a Lovecraft reference? That wouldn't have been so obvious if they did it right."

StanleyPain - 2008-06-14

Well, it also explained the whole thing about the video having Latin in it. But yeah....I remember an American Cinematographer article specifically saying it was something weird about the ship time-travelling into the past, then coming back with some demon from the middle ages or something like that.

The Mothership - 2021-02-09

Stars for eatenmyeyes "Death Ship: the Ship that Eats People".

Jimmy Labatt - 2008-06-14

Oh also, check out the IMDB trivia page for this film; it has some laughable leaps in logic (for instance, everything in the Event Horizon is supposed to be frozen and yet a water bottle floats by with unfrozen water swishing around).

Fun!

leifthorrsman - 2008-06-16

This movie has plenty of gore and some pretty awesome death scenes.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-06-16

That's why I submitted it.

Make a joke, or be witty or something. Or lurk moar.
