This ending is much better. Even so, this movie really sucked. Bob Marley.

Then head off to the original movie:

It was actually good.

5 stars for The Last Man on Earth

Will Smith gets 1 star for ruining perfectly good sci-fi AGAIN, cause we all know that I Robot needed to be an action film.

kingarthur - 2008-05-31

I'm not defending the film but I, Robot was one of the most tedious things I've ever had the displeasure of reading.

Hakujinjoe - 2008-05-30

This ending is nothing like the novel ending. In the novel he's executed by half vampires that can live in sunlight.

waxeater - 2008-05-30

It's been a while since I've read it, but I thought he killed himself.

drcrypt - 2008-05-30

You're both right. He is captured by intelligent vampires who have not been driven insane by their deaths and are rebuilding society. He, now the monster -- a creature that kills their kind during the day time -- is to be publicly executed, but he is given a suicide pill by the vampire woman who helped catch him.

This is NOTHING like the original ending. It's testament to how bad this movie is that people think this is a substantial improvement.

waxeater - 2008-05-30

I'm more right than him!

Hakujinjoe - 2008-05-30

the problem with this movie is that it took out every single point that made the book interesting. Hell, where is his former coworker who is always calling out for him? Where is the mass of vampire women gyrating sexily to try to get him out of the house? What was the point of having the dog from the beginning? Where was the giant corpse fire? Everything about this movie was different. The only good part was that the scenery was at least realistically similar to the book.

Hakujinjoe - 2008-05-30

also, you are right, he does kill himself after being captured by the vampires. I don't know what the point of calling the movie "I am Legend" is if you don't even follow the story enough to get the meaning of that phrase in the same intent that Richard Matheson intended it.

If you can't tell, i was really disappointed with this movie. I don't know why I expected more.

kingarthur - 2008-05-31

Gotta agree with Hakujinjoe here. Though I've never seen the one with Vincent Price and I am still curious to see how far that one strayed from the book, which is so good it hurts, if at all. After reading the book, even the Charlton Heston version is a piece of shit.

Blaise - 2008-05-30

Five stars for dissuading me of any last interest in renting this crap movie.

positively - 2008-05-30

Somehow lamer than the original.

waxeater - 2008-05-30

Now that I've finally watched the clip: it's a more interesting ending, but it's actually LESS true to the novel. At least he dies in the original ending.
