As one of the ignorant, I have a simple request. Perhaps you can enlighten us with an example of a physical law that prevents speciation? Hint: The second law of thermodynamics only applies to isolated systems.

This is a blatant strawman. There aren't any scientists out there claiming that Darwin explains everything. He's conjuring up antagonism and it is fucking embarrassing for him.

Maybe you WANT him to be suggesting that physics and evolution don't mix (which, by the way, is a gross misunderstanding of evolution; if you don't know that off-hand then your school system has failed you miserably) but that flat out isn't the case.

I honestly enjoy that you post here with views that clash with the mainstream here at PoETV - I'm really not being sarcastic, I think it's great and frankly pretty brave - but don't stand up for Ben Stein just because you think he's on your side. He's making an ass of himself and anyone who legitimately has the stones to challenge evolution would do well to distance themselves from him and his movie.

Working biologists challenge evolution every time they observe a new species or sequence its genome. It doesn't take stones, just data. Creationists who deny solid scientific observations in a desperate attempt to support their bronze age myths don't need Ben to make an ass of them. I also think it is wonderful and progressive that Billy Buttsex's homeschooling involves a computer.

jesustweak, "challenge" probably wasn't the right word. I hoped it was clear that when I said "the stones to challenge evolution" I wasn't including the scientific process. There is obviously a chasm of difference between the scientific process and outright denying an entire theory because it makes your religious beliefs look silly. From what I can gather from the trailer, Stein's movie is built around the same asinine confusion: that bad science isn't been thrown because it's bad science, but because scientists can't allow anyone to poke holes in their beloved Darwinism.

And I think it does take balls to be that brutally wrong in public just to make a buck.

Takewithfood, I think what he's trying to say is that Darwin can only explain so much, but it never explained how the universe started, or how his own theory began, which is CRUCIAL to the whole "God didn't do this" argument. Even leading scientists dealing with Biochemical Predestination (such as Dean Kenyon) have jumped to the ID bandwagon because Darwinism doesn't hold up when put into that light, and I think that labeling Ben Stein and all other Creationists as idiots is unfair.

You'd do well to at least rent a movie like "Unlocking the Mystery of Life," which explains these theories better than Ben Stein ever could. Mr. Stein is a hero, because he's fighting against a totalitarian thought-control machine that's eventually going to ostracize him as a loonie.

God bless him, because he's fighting for freedom of thought and education, and that's a tough battle to fight.

Furthermore, the question of whether or not any scientific discovery refutes the existence of God is NOT the concern of science - it is strictly a theological question. Science has no agenda. It is a process.
