Testicles of Doom - 2008-04-24

This needs to be on DVD already.

snothouse - 2008-04-24

Oh okay, a giant comet that sounds like the Road Runner takes all our clouds and breaks the moon, resulting in New Yorks long-dormant volcanoes erupting. This creates in crazy mutants putting He-Man in a remake of Ben-Hur. But when he breaks out of his balsa wood shackles, spates of car-throwing, horse-jumping, and glow-making ensue.
They accurately foretold everything that happened in 1994!
QUESTION: HOW DID ENCYCLOPEDIA KNOW?

rustedmutt - 2008-04-24

I vividly remember owning a Thundarr coloring book.

DrVital - 2008-04-24

Gotta love the Jack Kirby designs and dialog:
"A world of savagery, 'Super Science', and Sorcery"

Scynne - 2008-04-24

This actually reminded me of Rocky and Bullwinkle at several points.

gorch - 2008-04-24

One of the cool things about this show was that, since it took place in a future Earth, there were tons of nods and references to "present day" pop culture and products.

For example, I think it's revealed at some point in the show that Ookla the Mok is named after UCLA.

Camonk - 2008-04-24

To me, that is very interesting. But I think Ookla is one of the best characters from anything ever.

StanleyPain - 2008-04-24

I always loved this cartoon because it was so....original I guess for the time. The weird future apocalypse setting was not really something you saw in much kids entertainment.

Thatcher Pennywhistle - 2008-04-24

Watching the opening tidal wave shot as a child, I would watch the house in the foreground and think to myself, "Hah! That's where I would live!"

Westward - 2008-04-24

ARIEL! OOKLA!

WE RIDE!

Cap'n Profan!ty - 2008-04-24

LORDS OF LIGHT!

Honest Abe - 2008-04-24

fuck yes

Camonk - 2008-04-24

I remember my friend telling me about this show: A guy goes around with a laser sword, a slutty princess, and a big cat guy that screams and throws rocks. I stared at him and told him that is the most awesome description of a show ever. He was trying to convince me it sucked.

fatatty - 2008-04-24

That really is a fabulous laser sword.

garcet71283 - 2008-04-24

If they did a game based off this....I would play the hell outa it.

Imagine an open-world RPG with this setting....

Zoot42 - 2008-04-24

You mean RIFTS?

Albuquerque Halsey - 2008-04-25

Q>E>D>

Camonk - 2008-09-19

Ha ha. RIFTS isn't a game. Games are something you can play.

Oh god I have to go shave my neck.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-04-24

I think this explains why I had nightmares of tidal waves as a wee lad.

FangoftheCobras - 2008-04-24

I loved this so much. also Brave Starr was great too.

UnderANeonHalo - 2008-04-26

I was going to say the exact same thing, we should have intarnetz for sex!

But seriously, Thundarr and Brave Star were more awesome than anything on tv at the time.

kingarthur - 2008-04-24

Not to get too geeky about this: but it had nothing to do with Jack Kirby or Brave Starr.

It was all from the mind of Steve Gerber, creator of Howard The Duck, who died recenty in his 60s. He had been fighting for several years to get ownership back from Marvel Comics in regrd to Howard The Duck. Marvel claimed they owned the character because Howard originally appeared for about half a page in a Man-Thing comic. Gerber left comics altogether for a long time, outside of the ocassional brilliant graphic novel, and workin on shows such as He-Man (okay, slight connection to Brave Starr) and creating Thundarr.

DrVital - 2008-04-25

Kirby worked on the show. He was hired by Gerber after Toth left. That wizard guy with the spinning head? Made by the King!

Binro the Heretic - 2008-04-25

Let us all fall on our knees and thank God nobody has gotten it into their heads to do a new version of this.

sosage - 2008-04-25

2k years in the future? That would make that Volkswagon he is tossing around a priceless ancient relic.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-04-25

Damn good soundtrack, too.

zatojones - 2008-04-25

I remember watching this with my loser metalhead uncle. He loved it.

blackmetallic - 2008-08-28

Ariel! Uklah! WE RIDE!

phalsebob - 2009-06-10

One of the greatest shows ever.

The Mothership - 2015-09-21

I have no explanation as to how I missed this until now. None.
