Oh okay, a giant comet that sounds like the Road Runner takes all our clouds and breaks the moon, resulting in New Yorks long-dormant volcanoes erupting. This creates in crazy mutants putting He-Man in a remake of Ben-Hur. But when he breaks out of his balsa wood shackles, spates of car-throwing, horse-jumping, and glow-making ensue.
They accurately foretold everything that happened in 1994!

I vividly remember owning a Thundarr coloring book.

Gotta love the Jack Kirby designs and dialog:
"A world of savagery, 'Super Science', and Sorcery"

This actually reminded me of Rocky and Bullwinkle at several points.

One of the cool things about this show was that, since it took place in a future Earth, there were tons of nods and references to "present day" pop culture and products.

For example, I think it's revealed at some point in the show that Ookla the Mok is named after UCLA.

I always loved this cartoon because it was so....original I guess for the time. The weird future apocalypse setting was not really something you saw in much kids entertainment.

Watching the opening tidal wave shot as a child, I would watch the house in the foreground and think to myself, "Hah! That's where I would live!"

I remember my friend telling me about this show: A guy goes around with a laser sword, a slutty princess, and a big cat guy that screams and throws rocks. I stared at him and told him that is the most awesome description of a show ever. He was trying to convince me it sucked.

That really is a fabulous laser sword.

If they did a game based off this....I would play the hell outa it.

Imagine an open-world RPG with this setting....

I think this explains why I had nightmares of tidal waves as a wee lad.

I loved this so much. also Brave Starr was great too.

Not to get too geeky about this: but it had nothing to do with Jack Kirby or Brave Starr.

It was all from the mind of Steve Gerber, creator of Howard The Duck, who died recenty in his 60s. He had been fighting for several years to get ownership back from Marvel Comics in regrd to Howard The Duck. Marvel claimed they owned the character because Howard originally appeared for about half a page in a Man-Thing comic. Gerber left comics altogether for a long time, outside of the ocassional brilliant graphic novel, and workin on shows such as He-Man (okay, slight connection to Brave Starr) and creating Thundarr.

Let us all fall on our knees and thank God nobody has gotten it into their heads to do a new version of this.

Damn good soundtrack, too.

I remember watching this with my loser metalhead uncle. He loved it.
