When I was growing up I thought they called it Mountain Dew because eXtreme sports snowboarders drank it. Shows what a good advertising campaign can accomplish.
Unfortunately, as much as I'd like to see them harken back to the original Mountain Dew angle on their advertising, there's just no way on Earth you could put that one over on a modern-day censor board. It'd be rejected overnight, and the guy on the ad firm who brought it up as a good idea would probably get canned the day after that.
