My respect for these gentlemen increased about 300% when I found out they had a snare-n-cymbal in their office for instant rimshots.

Janusian Soul - 2008-01-14

Agreed

DrVital - 2008-01-14

Before we had the internet we had the usual gang of idiots.

God Bless'em all.

Billy Buttsex - 2008-01-14

Okay, so everyone should know that I always thought MAD Magazine sucked until I saw this. These guys are totally heroes, with or without the drum set.

snothouse - 2008-01-14

Same story from me.

theFlu - 2008-01-14

... and now there's advertising.

But, considering how many years MAD gave us, I can say quite well, 'screw the future editions'

FABIO2 - 2008-01-14

If you don't want fond memories being destroyed, don't ever pick up a current copy of MAD.

FABIO2 - 2008-01-14

and holy shit would Gaines be spinning in his grave at the state of things today. Half the magazine is ads for CORN GONE WRONG XTREME CORN CHIPS or cross-promos for whatever crap AOL/Time Warner is hawking that month.

Hailey2006 - 2008-01-14

Than what are you doing reading it!

FABIO2 - 2008-01-14

Because Sergio is still alive and is the only thing worth looking at in that rag. Once he dies the entire MAD building should explode (hopefully taking John Caldwell with it).

Hailey2006 - 2008-01-14

They need to make a movie about these guys!

ihounokyaku - 2008-01-14

Seeing this makes me want to subscribe out of principle.

RandomFerret - 2008-01-14

Only do that if you can somehow figure out how to do it 40 years ago.

boner - 2008-01-15

There is a CD-ROM collection of MAD 1952-1998 that you can get for about 50 bucks.

boner - 2008-01-15

Oops actually there is now a DVD-ROM that goes to 2006 and is like 30 bucks.

Dinky Patterson - 2008-01-15

On Saturday I was in B. Dalton and I bought MAD For Decades for only ten bucks. Its a hefty volume of some of their best material from the 50s to the 90s.

boner - 2008-01-14

I subscribed when I was about 12 years old, the perfect age for MAD. Still wish my dentist had them instead of People, Maclean's and a collection of Herman cartoons.

Also this is the first time I've seen a girl admit to reading MAD and liking it.

Corman's Inferno - 2008-01-15

When Bill Gaines died, the world sucked just a little bit more.

This clip has Dick DeBartolo, who's had an article in every issue for over 30 years. His memoir, "Good Days And MAD," reveals how truly awesome it was to work at MAD during the Bill Gaines era.

Corman's Inferno - 2008-01-15

Whoops. 40 years.

Random - 2008-02-24

This is really depressing when I think about what Warner did to Mad after Gaines died.

baleen - 2008-02-27

when it's dom it's fawny.

Candlejackv616 - 2010-03-30

MAD.

Nominal - 2020-01-08

And it just recently died. Good thing too. About six months ago I picked up an issue for the first time in ten years. Issues were $6.50. Half the rag was ads. The articles seemed like they were all submitted by bottom tier Somethingawful goons. Sergio's comic was still in there, but it seemed strangely sanitized.
