well, that just ruined it for me. i'm retiring folks. see ya around, internet.

theFlu - 2007-12-09

NO. they should never, ever humanize or expand upon a meme.

Hearing the kid speak and seeing him without his make-up on completely kills the joke - it unravels the awesomeness of the original clip. It is undone.
Thus, I hereby proclaim the kid and his meme UNAWESOME and recommend it be stricken from the public zeitgeist.

(I'm one starring the news, not the clip btw)

Sudan no1 - 2007-12-09

You wrote an entire paragraph about a local news fluff piece destroying your precious memories or some shit.

5 stars for that.

theFlu - 2007-12-09

Talking exclusively about the kid was a means of examining how a meme is undone.
The paragraph was done as a sort of grim realization that the news is turning more and more to internet phenomenons (see MSN video news) to bolster their content, and in doing so, completely ass raping the "sanctity" of internet culture.

5 invisible stars for you not getting it / your cool hipster nonchalance

TinManic - 2007-12-09

as if writing a whole paragraph is a big deal. given literacy today i guess the effort that goes into writing a paragraph is akin to the building the sistine chapel. i say we garrote all the hipsters and go back to the square-ass faggotry of articulating ourselves.

Adramelech - 2007-12-09

Yeah, seriously. Humanizing or providing context for something completely kills it.

Kojack13 - 2007-12-09

The fact that you meant "painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel" but screwed up and said "building the Sistine Chapel" in a message about articulating ourselves is hilarious.

TinManic - 2007-12-09

because the sistine chapel grew out of the ground, right? weak.

Kojack13 - 2007-12-09

I guess you're right. It's just as significant as man like Alfred Einstein.

Good job zombie kid.

Remember when StarWars kid got an ipod or something for getting on the internet ?

TinManic is dumb.

revdrew - 2007-12-09

I'm not watching this. I want to remember this kid they way he was .. liking turtles. As a zombie.

baleen - 2007-12-09

I find this news report to be so bizarre and surreal. If you think about what it's actually about, it's like a slow hissing dream you might have after watching Robocop. It means nothing but is actually happening.

theFlu - 2007-12-09

here you go, Baleen:

themilkshark - 2007-12-09

Crucifried - 2007-12-09

HE'S GONNA GET SOME TURTLES, EVERYONE.

JUST CALM DOWN. IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN.

Hooker - 2007-12-09

A pretty clear illustration of why old media is dying.

coprolalia - 2007-12-09

Jonathan is so much better than the rest of his family.
Lighten up, mom!!

Jeff Fries - 2007-12-09

The merchandise looks pretty good

cognitivedissonance - 2007-12-09

At least he's not a fat kid.

dorje - 2007-12-09

boy gets his turtles.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2007-12-09

I like hermit crabs!

NoCode - 2007-12-09

I agree with the NEVER EXPAND UPON A MEME sentiments, but this gets five from me because every time they replayed the I LIKE TURTLES sound bite I still couldn't help myself from loling in spite of the meme-killing humanization.
