Dick cop doing his dick cop thing.
There was no way a taser was warranted there. Those are a self defense tool, not a "follow my instructions" tool.
Dick.
Cop.

You know, I've gone through my whole life so far, and I've never been tased by a cop. Never had a taser pointed at me. Never even had a cop consider the possibility of tasing me.
All because I don't turn encounters with a cop into a measuring contest, and when instructed to follow protocol, I do so.
Sign the stupid ticket buddy. You'll have plenty of time to mouth off to the cops when your in court defending your not guilty claim.
|
Xiphias - 2007-11-21 OBEDIENCE IN ALL THINGS
|
remag2117 - 2007-11-21 Obediance to protocol, designed to assist authorities keep the peace and protect the private property of American citizens. The same protocol that has ensured such peace for 200+ years.
If you want to defy the cop, make sure you know protocol better than he does, and demonstrate that in the court-room.
|
Adramelech - 2007-11-21 At the risk of sounding like an enormous faux-rebel faggot, government loves people like you. You sound like you have Stockholm Syndrome and are more than ready to blame the victim. See, watch.
I've never been raped. I've never even had a stranger's dick pointed at me. That's because I don't dress like a little whore and dance around like a hussy asking for it.
No. The reason you've never been tazed is because, by the purest chance, you haven't encountered that one sociopathic power tripping police officer who thinks having a clean record and community college credits gives him the right to bully, intimidate and discharge potentially fatal self-defensive weaponry on people because he doesn't like the tone of their voice.
|
remag2117 - 2007-11-21 By knowing protocol, and by knowing it better than those who are trained to enforce it, one can easily pick out the straight shooter cop from the crazy sociopath, and react accordingly.
And I'm sorry to say a comparison of this instance to rape is an invalid comparison. In one instance, portrayed in this film, the "victim" is acting outside legal protocol that is not, by its nature, an unjust procedure (therefore, he is not practicing civil disobediance). The cops trained response to such activity is to enforce the appropriate protocol in this event (which, in this case, is arrest). Thus, the "victim" is acting outside his legal right. In the instance of rape, a victim is acting to protect her personal property (in this case, his or her body). This is well within the victim's legal right, whereas the attacker is acting outside legal protocol. Thus, the aggressor is acting outside his/her legal right.
Two difference scenarios. Two different interpretations.

Did this cockhole not realize that the camera was recording? He claims the guy is under arrest, then refuses to explain what crime was being broken AND to read the guy his rights.
|
Son of Slam - 2007-11-21 You don't have to have the rights read immediately, only before questions are asked.

|
Son of Slam - 2007-11-21
What's interesting is that I believe failure to sign could be grounds for an arrest; and if the cop explained things better (and told the guy how much over he was going) he could have de-escalated the situation.
Waiting for the Shitcock response.

If I don't sign my ticket, does that mean it's invalid?
No, but not signing for a ticket in some states can lead to other charges. Signing for your ticket, merely means that you will pay the fine or plead not guilty and show up in court. If your name was spelled wrong, that could be used in court with other anomalies to introduce reasonable doubt in the officer's testimony. However, if all the information relevant to the stop is correct, a spelling error will not result in the dismissal of the charge(s).
from: http://www.speedingticketcentral.com/speeding-ticket-FAQ.html
the first link after googling "not signing speeding ticket"
Doesn't excuse the cop's use of force and not explaining that if he didn't sign it he'd be arrested. Also, what sort of initial reaction do cops expect when they point a weapon at someone? I mean besides acting totally cool and calm while rolling over like a dog.
Also, also, there is a point where your argument with a cop is clearly a lost cause. It sucks, but sometimes you're getting the ticket whether you like it or not. So save your breath.
|
remag2117 - 2007-11-21 What exactly where the cop's options when the man refused to cooperate with the arrest?
1.) Excuse the man's behavior and let the attempt at arrest slide.
2.) Use physical force to restrain the man, putting both at risk of long term injury (broken bones, sprains, etc).
3.) Use a device that inflicts a heavy amount of temporary pain with little to no risk of long term injury in order to restrain the resistee.
Seems like the cop did what he's supposed to.
|
|
sosage - 2007-11-21 I don't know where the cop put his options. Up his ass?
Skills in basic tactfulness should be a required class.
|
remag2117 - 2007-11-21 Sean Robinson - See option 2. Note how "taking him down" leads to a greater result of injury to both parties than option 3. Note how that injury can possibly be long term. Note, therefore, how option 3 is a superior option.
|
Sean Robinson - 2007-11-21 As you fail to get this, a wasted effort:
You are presupposing that there has to be a physical altercation. Your options are either that the guy having a mildly loud reaction will need to either be beaten or tazed in order to calm down.
For you there is no spectrum between yelling and physically attacking or resisting the officer, save the autistic spectrum that ties these behaviours directly together in your piss-poor brain. If the cop had even the basic capability to calm the guy down, like would expect a peace officer to have, then he probably could have gotten the guy to sign the ticket. Instead, the cop is going to have to toss the whiny asshole a half-years worth of mortgage payments.
|
|
futurebot - 2007-11-24 I hate to break this to you, remag, but the law is not something you can deduce based on SHEER LOGIC and your personal ideas about how humans interact. Go take a class and stop spamming this board with your pretend knowledge. Hint: in conflict situations, a cop's "options" do not legally involve a flowchart.
|
baleen - 2007-11-21
This cop isn't going to be getting any promotions. The cop just said the reason for the arrest was "shouting and whining." The whiny guy was right about not being read his rights, the cop was right about refusing to sign a ticket, but this was pretty incompetent police work that can probably get the officer in trouble if the whiner gets a decent lawyer.
How much do you want to bet that Officer Shockinaw just finished two tours of duty in Fallujah?
|
Ryo-Cokey - 2007-12-07 If you refuse to sign the ticket, they are supposed to arrest you. Signing the ticket acknowledges you were detained and replaces them arresting you for the offense at hand.
You don't sign the ticket, you take a trip with the cop down to the station.
