You can say what you want about the Halo series as a game, but it's got one of the best stories of any game I can think of... probably too much good plot to cram into a movie.

I'm no neckbeard but I somehow ended up picking up the Halo novels on a lark and they are actually really good. Trust me, that admission shocks me to make: if you told me a year ago I'd be recommending books based on a video game, I'd have torn my own skin off, then and there.

But the Halo universe has an awesome story: the big problem is most of it doesn't really come through in the games.

Seriously, Halo has an absolutely massive sci-fi mythology going on that could easily provide fertile ground for several films, especially if given a Lord of the Rings style treatment where most of the body of work is taken into consideration.

And game movies suck because for the most part they have virtually nothing in common with the source material or are based on games with little or no plot to begin with.

I suck for even looking at them let alone reading them.

I love the game, I love the story and its complex mythology. I like it so much that I too picked up the books. They are just fucking godawful. Regardless of how interesting a story is, one of the requirements for writing a good book is knowing how to write well. The people who wrote the Halo books can't write a Reader's Digest survival story.

You fools. Marathon's story eclipses Halo's by tenfold.
