I'll agree with mic. My first mic was a cheapo with a 1/4 cable permanently attached. I used an 1/8th adapter to plug it in to my beige PC. About a year into recording I got my first real microphone, a Shure SM58. When producing your own music gear is part of the growing process.

Shure mics rule. Relatively inexpensive, durable and reliable. Perfect for home recording
