Nice to see the Johnson Viking Valiant II, I used to use several of those for broadcasting.

Most hams use Single Sideband modulation, a more advanced form of radio signal that uses less space and saves bandwidth.

The AM Rally is a celebration of Amplitude Modulation, the original way to carry voice over the airwaves and still used in AM radio today, an over one hundred year legacy.

AM is even combined with other types of modulation and used in digital wireless systems as "QAM" today.

Never hammed, but I spend hours as a kid spinning the dials on my grandfathers shortwave. It was a gorgeous blue unit, with a stylized planets and I believe a satellite on the dial.
