We had an old decommissioned rock quarry that seems pretty similar to this place. I think the state owned it, so there wasn't an entry fee or any waiver signing. There was a shit ton of teenagers getting wasted, fighting and occasionally drowning. They finally shut it down just because people would constantly trash the place. I think they still use it for scuba training, and at the bottom there is a bunch of vehicles people drove in and old excavation equipment.

now its illegal the kids will want it even more

I am generally critical of the American notion of freedom as pure license to do whatever you want regardless of the social or personal cost.

But sometimes I really feel it.
